"m3 e36 6speed manual evolution done 100k, deep purple. full service history and full black leather really clean and drives 100 percent. private plate that says m3 new clutch tax till april next year and mot till aug next year. m3 wheels been lowered a bit. electric roof everything works spot on"

Bit vague I know but considering taking this in part ex? It would owe me £3500, is that around what it's worth? Obviously a lot of factors but just after a rough guide as I have no idea about this market.

Paradigm knows a fair bit about them iirc.

6 speed would be an Evo version with vanos iirc, a lot of M specific parts too.

Price seems fair but depends on condition.

Both (3.0 and 3.2) had VANOS, but the 3.0 only had single VANOS not double.

Ignore the first reply as quite clearly an M3 cabriolet (says electric roof in OP, I guess that could be sunroof), even one with 100,000 miles on it (which could be low miles for the year, technically) is going to be worth a lot more than £1,000. They appear to have appreciated a touch since I last looked, which obviously for you is a good thing.

Is it a cab?

The price depends on what you want out of the car and how much of it you will need to have rebuilt to achieve that.

As with nearly any performance car it is the power and handling that make them special. Enginewise these cars last well but go back and look at the adverts, almost none of them will mention any suspension work being carried out, unless its a moron who put lowering springs on 15 year old worn out dampers.

So see my thread for whats involved in a complete suspension rebiuld, without one it is likely to drive like a total nightmare

A lowered M3 - I wouldn't touch it. That said, the mileage is about the norm for them. Make sure it has the Vader seats and Aircon, otherwise it won't be worth anything because no-one will want to buy it! Double vanos is an issue with them, it's effectively a time bomb. I've owned 2 E36's and both had issues with the spark plugs getting threaded too. Rust was a massive issue on my first one around the windscreen and scuttle panel. Check under the bonnet to look for signs of crumpling too. I crashed my first one and was simply amazed at how well the damage had been repaired/disguised, the only sign of any damage was under the bonnet.

What i should have said is im no enthusiast and that is who its goin to appeal to.

as there are much better cars you can buy for 3500

better? if you want a shopping trolley, then yes, a 1.6 Focus will be better.

if youre not a car enthusiast and want a shopping trolley, why even reply? Its obviously an enthusiast car

its an old e36 ... i would not say its worth 3500 maybe 1k ish

It's an Evo yeah, by electric roof I assumed he just meant sunroof, I'm waiting on pics and further details this afternoon.

The car would only to be to sell on and would need to get £3500 for it.

It's a 1997, no further details until later on this afternoon.

Yeah I've had a quick look on pistonheads, all going to be down to the condition of it really. It's got FSH but not sure what has been done regards to suspension etc.

Had a look at one in a local dealer the other day, 3.2evo coupe, 3 owners, with history, it was up for £5.5k

It was laughably bad, cheap tyres, very bouncy suspension (the old push test made it bounce up&down alarmingly) claimed 80k, more like 180k from the interior....

Didn't bother driving it, it sounded truly awful once they jump started it....
Shame, most are now like this.

The last one I really liked was a one owner 3.0 saloon that I happened upon at a delivery location, for sale sign in the screen, owned by the md of the company I was delivering to.

White,Full BMW history, recent suspension, only 73k miles.

£9995 in the screen!!!!

I must say VTR, the wording in the description of the one you posted puts me right off!

Very very low mileage (6.5k roughly p/a) for its year, description a bit vague....

Does not sound right imo.

Didn't you learn anything from your last pretending to be a car dealer thread? :p buy it if you want it but for resale purposes its a terrible buy as they take ages to shift, have a small target market and leave you liable should anything go wrong.

Part exing against an Evo 5.

I'll see what the pictures are like and further details this afternoon, cheers all.

haha I done pretty well out of the 182 it sold within a few days on PH :)

Fox is spot on VTR, if its so good, why hasn't he sold it himself, and, more to the point, why is he changing it? I doubt very much it's faultless and he merely wants a change.

The chances of it being perfect & straight and an easy sell on are slim imo, an M3 is a whole different league to a 182, not to mention, with all due respect, imo you did well out of that more through luck than judgment.

He's a trader, has offered me a few different cars over the last few weeks for the Evo, he said he will be listing it at £4495.

I'll see what the pics are like and get some further details.

Assuming it's in reasonable condition should it be easy to sell at £3.5k? Know nothing about these and the market.

The Evo is a private sale and registered to me btw and so will the m3 if I take it. I bought the Evo as I had a good deal on it and was going to keep it for some fun but circumstances have changed again and need to release the money for the Porsche project that I've just started.

Yes I know I change cars and circumstances regularly :p
