Jobcentre Plus website

I've made it a habit now to go sit in a coffee shop afterwards and read a book for half an hour or so before i come home. Otherwise i just end up being all worked up for the rest of the day and can't get anything done. It drains you in there.

Mild understatement ;)

Not to mention its actually 5 jobs a week now not 2 ;)

3 a week now, for me anyway. Though I probably end up appying 10x that. :o

New website is ********, the interface is crap, can't even sort by date posted and in the last week there has been literally hardly any jobs posted in my fields.

Nightmare just to sign up to seeing as you have to wait like a day just for a activation email.

I thought it did that automatically without any input (they took out the sort by date option on the old site which drove me up the wall as I really had to keep an eye on the date posted column).

Not on my browser. If you just search all jobs by postcode and scroll through you can see the odd few not in order.

Must be nice to only *have* to find 3 a week. That's what they started me on when I signed on back in July. 3 months later it was 8 a week minimum, and last week they said 10 minimum before I commented on it to the advisor and she told me there actually is no minimum, but if you don't apply for jobs they think you should, they'll put a hold on your money while they get an adjudicator decision.

I'm already up to 12 so far this week. It's just a pity there are so few companies that actually bother responding or give feedback.

I just signed up for it so i can spare the lecture tomorrow.

What a pants site. Impossible to sort by date posted as someone said above so i've got more jobs near the top from october than november. Maybe half (being generous) the number of related jobs compared to other single sites i use. And there is zero formatting for the job descriptions so it's just one huge text block that's impossible to read.

Fantastic.

Awful site, signing up to it was a pain the rear, didnt take note of my pin number thingy, couldnt find out where to have it sent to me again, so had to do it all again, then it wouldnt sign me in when i did it all right, kept on saying we need to verify your email address, which i had done, and not being able to sort by date is bloody stupid

Yeah it's terrible, the confirmation email went to my junk and it has a time out of 6 hours with no way of resending it so my account is dead for ever...

Still don't really want to be a cleaner so its a little ok

I got told today that signing up will be mandatory from the start of next year instead of february or whatever it was they said before.

e: ah says that in the article too

I dont know why they even call the jobcentre the jobcentre anymore! I'm personally on the workprogram where every few weeks to a month I go to a 3rd party company that works with me on skills, CV, job apps and such.

Why dont the job centre do that in the first place!

I did an "interview skills" course a week or so back. Was SO embarrasing. I'm 21, was well dressed in smart shoes and trousers with a shirt. I have decent highschool grade but a total lack of work experience (having been in education). The guys on the course with me were literally ALL junkies. One guy even took his methadrone mid course. And they ALL just talk over the person teaching continuously through the thing. And one guy was thrown out for being aggressive and swearing.

Such a crap position to be in.

That said the website isnt too bad. Certainly an improvement though you cannot use the SOC codes to search any more(as far as i can tell?) which is annoying.

the work program is doing what the jobcentre should have done in the first place, and isnt doing what it should be doing, its a joke.

as for the new jobsearch sites i got told on tuesday when i questioned them about the current site that doesnt work properly i should "bare with us it will get better" talk about not giving a flying whoohaaa.

ids and the rest of the department for works and pensions need to get a kicking as there ideas are getting worse and worse.

Sad thing is the advisors cant use the old system anymore, or at least my DEA at the local JCP cant.

She has to look at the jobsmatch site just like we do and print pages off for us to take home and then load up on the website ourselves, all she then does is writes a little note saying she has given me a couple of jobs to look at.

How is this better than the old system?????

yep cos government IT projects go so well according to history

this is going to be absolute fail, IDS and his rhetoric towards jobseekers is quite frankly shocking, by far the majority on JSA are people who have fallen on tough times and become unemployed, the droves of scrongers illustrated by the Daily Fail just isnt the case. All this system will do is punish those that are genuine claimants, what happens if you live in a rural area with no computer and no money to get the bus to town to use the library computer?

I seriously hate this government its like turning the clock back to the victorian era. I have no experiences of the job centre, but I imangine job centre workers are procedural driven civil servants with no concept of commons sense, just wait for computer says no, heres 13 wks without benefits.

I had to sign on a couple of weeks ago and just like you guys, the new site is awful.

The new rules are terrible too, benefit cuts for 26 weeks? genuine people will suffer from all this nonsense.
I also have a car so I am expected to commute up to 1.5hrs each way to and from work, I just gave up my last job because I couldn't afford a 40 minute commute as it was costing £50 a week and yet they want me to pay more so I earn even less!

I'm signing off and going to domino's to deliver pizzas till something comes up, It far less hassle and moneys better! My visit to the JC was unusually helpful this time and I was talking about old jobs I had done and found that once domino's pay your fuel for the evening you can then go to HMRC and claim your mileage allowance back too which would work out to be about £10 a day although that's annually. Something I was I knew last year as I have lost around £2000 :(

26 weeks is nothing, if you walk out of a job, get fired for gross misconduct or something similar my advisor told me they can ban you from 3-5 YEARS and shes not just one of the desk jockeys she genuinely tries to get people help.
