Virgin Media Discussion Thread

Just been upgraded to 60mb, but the downside is I now have to use one of those godawful 'super' hub things

The wifi on these things is absolutely shocking and certainly not fit for purpose! Basically, unless i'm sitting right next to the damn thing the signal strength is terrible and the connection randomly drops.

I've tried switching between channels and various other things but with little joy. I'll be configuring it to modem mode and using a separate wifi router I think

I use my old router but it's only 54g, still has better coverage though. I dont use modem mode however, this way i still have wireless-n in the living room for when the gf's on the laptop and it's quick enough - 80Mb or so on my 100Mb connection. Not had any problems at all with the superhub in terms of reliability, it's just the wireless range that lets it down.

With the new firmware I get corrupted downloads now and then

Tech said I will have to wait till a new firmware update or I maybe able to have a SH 2 in Jan.

ive not altered my settings in anyway, super hub is as is, was setup when it got changed, on steam i just downloaded at 12mbs so 10gb plus in less than 8mins, with wifi left on.

can have 4 pc's, xbox360 plus other device on it with no probs, 2 gamers as well in the house.

got friends that have bT, tiscali, talktalk etc and a few other ips's, none get anywhere near VM, i wouldn't knock it, like i said above until you have been elsewhere, i tried it, soon went back.

Good to hear a positive experience with Virgin. I've had them for 4 yrs at this house and am very happy except the rubbish upload speed. 60 down and still just 3 up.

well im on 100mb down and nearly always get more tbh ,but yes agree up can be slow, i'd like 100/100 but won't happen any time soon, even with the newer 200mb down, they still say 50 up max :(

Well, I currently have the once or twice a year extended Virgin outage... phone and broadband went down about 1am, still down, they say will be fixed around 10am. Last time they said that it was a couple of days. Still, with tethering on my phone, it isn't a big deal.

Make sure you call them up and get them to give you money off your bill. Don't let them get away with any sort of downtime!

My Virgin connection is terrible :p Best amend my router settings, opps.

Just moved into our new place that has virgin fiber installed. Thinking of ordering 100mb on the 27th.

Been on sky Adsl up to 8mb for about 4 years now. Can't wait.
