Hi guys, Long time no post, How I have missed the forums,

So, Its christmas and a friend of mine has money to spend, He wants a PC that is:

- Of average size so we can tuck it behind his TV
- Can play Football Manager 13
- Light movie usage, probably some small DVD files through VLC
- Light gaming possibly, Fifa e.t.c

So I spent a few minutes lining up a small basket, I have left out a graphics card as I haven't looked into the newer NVidia cards for a while now and not sure if the 610/20/30 e.t.c would at all be a good idea.

He also already has a 2TB hard drive but I might need to include a cheap SSD as he uses the 2TB in one of those Docking Stations

YOUR BASKET
1 x AMD Athlon II X4 Quad Core 640 3.00GHz (Socket AM3) - Retail £59.99
1 x Gigabyte 78LMT-USB3 AMD 760G (Socket AM3+) DDR3 Motherboard £39.98
1 x Cooler Master Elite Power 500W Power Supply £29.99
1 x Xigmatek Helios XTK231 Mini Tower Case - Black £24.98
1 x Corsair Value 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 PC3-10666C9 1333MHz Low Voltage Dual-Channel Kit £23.98
1 x Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro Rev 2 CPU Cooler (Socket 775 / 1155 / 1156 / 1366 / AM2 / AM2+ / AM3 / FM1 / FM2) £15.98
Total : £209.00 (includes shipping : £11.75).

Any suggetions or improvements are more than welcome, I have gone with the AMD board and chip simply because of cost and the fact that the X4 is a powerful chip for what it is.

Thanks Guys :)

The Trinity APU is more capable than the GPUs you are looking to add to your own spec. I've used 8GB of 2133mhz RAM as the IGP will love you for the speed. Your PSU isn't even 80% efficient (bronze) so I've used this antec. Case is cheap and small (mATX). Small SSD for fast boot times as a HTPC, you could double the capacity for an extra £20 though.

P.S This A85 chipset mobo allows overclocking and has a HDMI output and sataIII, avoid the cheaper A55 mobos

Hono do you always end up wrecking someones budget?

What are you on about, he didn't set a budget?

He said he might well add a small SSD to his spec and was asking about GPUs to add for gaming, so he was potentially spending much more than £210 anyway. None of the GPUs he linked are any cop (a 2nd hand 460 would make more sense at ~£50), might as well use the trinity APU. The PSU was pants, ok I spent £10 more but it's a good PSU and will claw back some money over the CM as it's more efficient.

You are welcome to spec something fella

The reason I didn't pick the T1 is because I used it myself a couple of weeks ago for a xmas build for my Dad. Optical drive a pain to install (the button on the front doesn't work either), not enough standoffs included, and more. would have rather spent more to get a better case tbh.

....better :)
APART FROM that massive case. Yes it's slim but stupidly tall.
Have a look at the Fractal 1000. OCUK doesn't sell em but I picked one up for £30 for my dad and it's brilliant.
Bargain in my opinion.
EDIT : You can always go for Lukies case.

Thanks.

Couple of problems with your post. Firstly you were ready to lynch me for spending too much and now you want me to spend more on the case lol Secondly Fractal kit isn't stocked here anymore :( Thirdly as my sig says there are infinite possibilities, my spec is just a suggestion he can consider and alter as needed ;)

EDIT The asgard case lukie used is even bigger.....make your mind up ;) If lukie says the T1 isnt great having used one I'll believe him, ive not used it personally

Well yes but the T1 might not be practical for him. If it is then go for it.
Secondly I already said they don't stock F 1000s
Thirdly who cares :p

EDIT : It seemed smaller in the thumbnail lol. Looked like a mATX to me.

Really? I really like the simplicity of the Core 1000.

Each to their own fella. If we all liked and spec'd exactly the same this forum would be boring lol

Lukie used a faster SSD but his system had half the RAM of my spec. Seeing as the IGP would like to borrow some it makes sense to have more than 4GB. It's down to the OP and his "client" to balance things. I look forward to hearing their thoughts :D

Each to their own fella.
Oh believe me that's my main rule when speccing someone a PC. I never pick the case for them, I just suggest which one is better for cable management, airflow etc. You can even check my post history when it comes to picking cases ;)

I was just wondering what Evans liked about the Asgard.
