Which used car?

Have in mind, that since I am 23 now, and this is my first car in the UK, the prices I am going to pay are a bit high (I think).

For the cars mentioned above for full comprehensive I can get around £700-800
a year if paid once off.

2003 350z - 5.5k is doable - 6k better.

Insurance £800 ish @ 23/24 :D

Terrible fuel economy, lots of fun.

What is this recent trend of people suggesting fun/sports cars every time someone asks for a normal car?

I've seen it in a few threads recently. People don't come here to ask "what would you buy with my money?".... It's getting really unhelpful

There is a tendancy for people to be unable to put themselves in the OP's position when giving car advice. This then results in fairly useless advice being offered.

It's hardly a recent thing, for years on here someone will ask for a nearly new diesel saloon workhorse and sooner or later someone is along posting BUT £10,000 COULD GET U AN UBER MODDED SUPRA TURBO, WHY WOOD U WANT A PASSAT

This is a Motors section frequented by petrol heads & people that love there cars, Do you really expect them to recommend a mundane family car ?

Sometimes alternative suggestions are good - because often people don't know what they want or have not considered other options that might be more suitable. For example somebody asking for a Golf may not have considered a Passat.

But its unlikely somebody asking for, say, a £4k hatchback for going shopping would actually be better off with a £4k Mercedes S500.

Yes, if thats what best fits the needs/requirements of the OP. If you can't, then why post in mundane family car threads? Plenty of performance car threads to post in instead.

1. Look on autotrader.
2. Set price to £5000
3. Go look at the ones you like.
4. Buy the one YOU think is best for you.

Job done.

Because it's a public forum & people are allowed there own opinions. Some threads start off with the OP wanting one thing but then with the advice given he changes his mind, I think the more suggestions the better as long as people aren't taking the ****.

If someone wants/needs such a thing then yes - the expertise here is such that there is plenty knowledge of which mundane family cars are good and which are bad

There is having a different opinion on whether a Mondeo or an Insignia are the better car, or that a good deal can be had on something 18 months compared to new and then there is telling someone looking for a big comfy motorway hack to buy a hard riding 2 seater sports coupe.

One is helpful, one just wastes everybodies time.

Well I did post "As long as they aren't taking the ****" but you both seemed to have ignored that bit. :p

You realise in this thread, where someone moving to the UK wanted a sensible runabout, someone suggested a 350z? The hot hatches I can kind of see where it came from.... but a 350z?!

That's taking the ****

After much consideration, I am going with the petrol 1.8 Civic.

I like the looks. I've driven one new from a Honda dealership 2 years ago when my dad was thinking of buying it and I like the interior and handling.
It's got decent fuel economy and decent performance.
It is modern and seems to be reliable.

The question that set the scales towards the Honda was if I wanted a car that would stay with me for years, or just a car to get me by now.

Trouble is not a lot of EX models, only one round where I am buying that is from a garage, going to phone them tomorrow see if they are open and take it for a test drive.
Hopefully I'll buy that, if not I'll just look for lower specced models.

How is the 350z not a sensible runabout it's reliable and offers way more than 40SPG isn't that what he asked for?

:p

He did state 100+ bhp, 3000 miles a year, and doesn't need 5 seats... I secretly think he wants something slightly mad.

Underneath yes I do. But I know the most sensible option is to get a "family" car.

Besides, I already got a japanese 2 door sports coupe back home :p
