Does anyone use a bar mount for their Garmin's? Thinking of getting one but their a bit pricey at £25 +

I recently got the K-Edge mount. It looks good and is secure, but is a bit pricey for a piece of metal.

Garmin's own out-front mount is only 5 quid cheaper despite being made of plastic which put me off.

SRAM are releasing one soon for £15, but I can't have SRAM kit on my bike.:p

I like the look of the SRAM one the best. The out front position definitely looks a lot more practical than having it on the stem. The K-Edge is nice but £35 ish

Finally got the bike the way I want it had to raise the front end a lot flipping the stem to help with my back. Had to point the saddle down from soreness on the turbo trainer.

Don't think I'll ever have a carbon frame again after putting my foot through the rear seat stay and snapping it.

some constructive critisism if i may...

pointing your saddle downwards isnt the best thing to do, you need a saddle like the fizik aliante which has a lot of rear end support for people like yourself whos hips probably flex forward quite a bit when leaning over/on the drops, you can also find fizik dealers that have demo saddles you can have for a week to prove my theory.

your carbon frame must have been a planet x or something else cheaply made for your foot to go through the chainstays and snap it, next time you feel like treating yourself theres no reason to stay away from a lightweight, comfortable stiff carbon frame if its of a decent quality, i wouldnt let one bad experiance turn you off.

also with regards to flipping your stem, your top tube might be too long for you causing you to lean over far too much, i would recommend getting a proper bike fit done at a reputable bike shop.

Terrible weather in the south west this morning. Went out in the dark while it was raining and around 20 miles in the heavens really opened up. Cold, wet and flooded roads I headed back.

On the upside I managed 36 miles towards the Rapha 500km and home before breakfast. So a small success but not the century I was hoping to put in.

I'm just manning myself up to get outside. Chucking it down here :(

And I've just found out that there are a couple of road closures on my planned route due to flooding!

I've had a bike fit this year with a local chap and made loads of changes to my position seat height went up we changed the stem for a smaller one and changed the bars as my others where to large. I've just flipped the stem. He said the frame size was ok for me.

I agree on the saddle but I only point it down on the turbo trainer and back up on the road, yeah I need a new saddle, it's on my xmas list.

The carbon frame was a trek madone, maybe one day I'll try another carbon frame when I have the cash.

I suffer from ITB Syndrome and lower back pain and the set up does help along with the speedplay pedals.

You don't need to tell me that lol! I'm looking out the window now, chucking it down. And it looks like it'll be like that for most of the day.

I've got a 42 mile route planned, just getting ready to go out now :(

went outside, got to the end of the road and there was a RIVER RUNNING DOWN IT. figured I'd never be able to cycle up hill though a river (against the flow) so went back inside and made some mulled wine.

total cycling fail this month!
was supposed to do a few miles on boxing day but torrential rain is forecast so that's not gonna happen.

Can anyone help me a bit here with my turbo trainer?

I've got a kurt kinetic - i set it all up with a vittoria trainer tyre on my rear wheel but after my first ride it seems to have left a ring of metal around the outside of the tyre! I don't know whether I just had it set up too tight to start with? I've set it now so that it's the minimum to prevent the tyre from slipping but it seems odd that it left a mark on the tyre rather than the other way around!

I did it!!

Well played :) But seriously how flat is that route  I thought my ride was pretty flat but still climbed 1500ft. Bristol is full of hills.

I kind of wish I had waited as it cleared up pretty nicely this afternoon :o

Shoes and jacket are drying out otherwise I would be tempted for a second round this evening. :p

Lol yeh I deliberately picked a flat ride. Couldn't be bothered with a load of hills AND crap weather.
I'll probably do a shorter flat ride tomorrow then a bigger ride over the Cotswolds after Xmas.

Actually, there must be something wrong with the GPS data. This ride for example, http://app.strava.com/activities/22017036, did a bit of the same route and is 836ft elevation total.

It didn't have any massive hills in it, but I assure you it's not like the Netherlands around here lol!

And my Garmin had around 2500 calories burnt when I finished, but that ride says 1700 odd (not that I take too much notice of that figure, just a guide really)

EDIT: Yep, definitely something wrong. If you look at the elevation graph, it looks all dot to dot, not a smooth graph. And the short sharp climb to my house at the end only registered as a 2ft increase!

Speaking of shoes I think it's about time I bought another pair. Heard a lot of good things about Sidi's and some good prices over @ Planet-X what are other people wearing and recommending?

I wear Sidi Zephyrs which are only an entry level shoe but very comfy and stiff. Wouldn't hesitate with another pair of Sidis.
