the cadence and heart rate monitoring part really doesnt bother me. i just want something to tell me my speed, how many miles i've done and to record the route i have done.

Got a Samsung galaxy s3 waterproof bike mount today! Love it.

Currently use Strava to track my rides. So want to keep this running in the background.

I haven't got a trip computer so I'd like a good app for speed, average speed etc which is displayed all the time.

....now I can stuff my face for the rest of the day.

I got out for a couple of hours as well this morning just so that i dont feel so guilty when i eat 3 days worth of food later on :D

I'm now 25 miles behind the 40miles/day average needed for the festive 500. Needs to be a big one tomorrow!

I overslept and managed a pathetic 6 miles today. When I finally got out it started raining and after the soaking I had yesterday I turned back.

Although I did end up going out for a second round last night so I'm just hitting the minimum daily avg.

I planned another century tomorrow but met weather is showing heavy rain all day and pretty miserable forecast for the rest of the week. Starting to doubt that I'll succeed now tbh. Only thing going to stop me is rain but if it's forecast everyday :(

I wear Sidi Zephyrs which are only an entry level shoe but very comfy and stiff. Wouldn't hesitate with another pair of Sidis.

Cheers, the Sidi Logo Venice look pretty similar and are pretty cheap on P-X think I'll get those, not sure if the Genius 5 are worth the extra moola.

need to get a bike, too fat to run for more than a fortnight as it kills my shins, and I can't go swimming because they keep throwing me back in and shouting "save the whale!". nah, not that bad really, but I've got 5 stone to lose to get to my target weight.

it'll be starting out early in the year (earliest I can afford a bike) and will over the next 3 months get into a condition where I can cycle to and from work (18 miles, some long inclines/declines & starts 7am to ends 1am.)

Head is saying, road bike is best, heart is saying fixie bike as I feel it'll be better initially for getting me in shape and then I can upgrade to a road. Head is going to win, so looking for suggestions on a cheap road bike to start with and what things I should be looking for. budget £100-150 to start.

I'll be reading through all 543 pages asap and a few other cycle threads. Also, what are the laws regarding helmets? I know I should wear one, and when I start doing long distance then I would, but I'm a bit of a bugger for not wearing one around town etc if I'm just zipping around.

Also going to need some suggestions on lights + other gear, again, cheap as chips until the bug really hits and I get my bonus in April :)
