monitor goes black after a short of period of playing games

Just google the manufacturer and model and increase voltage. That will give you the options and how high you can safely go. If this is the problem only a slight increase should be needed. If it has no effect put it back to defaults.

I just downloaded a program to check the gpu core voltage and it says it is 0.825v.

Like I said I'm no expert with this sort of thing but am I right in thinking this is far too low?

that's idle voltage, its as it should be, put the GPU under load and the volts will go up.

will just throw in my two cents... i had an exact similar problem with me gtx580 msi oc version. it would run fine with everything else but give it a challenge like bf3 or farcry 3 and it would freeze/hang/crash etc...

the 100% solution fix for me was upping the voltage from what it was... hovering just about 1.01mv to 1.1mv... and getting after burner to force constant voltage.

was so happy. never looked back. took 3 months to figure.

if it doesnt work. but im sure it will... dont be afraid to look at the msi forum. thats where i got the solution... not to be disrespecting this forum.

humbug i had that same problem with the fans on bf3... the fans wouldnt spin up and gameplay turned jittery and almost laggy. i was so used to hearing the fans ramp up on startup of the game that i knew something was up. had to restart pc... only happened the odd time...

1.1v is a lot from 1.01v did you just random that increase?
I bet you could make it sable with much less than that amount increase.

Hi there,

Dont know if you have managed to sort this but we are having the same problem with my sons PC i got him for xmas. he has same spec as you. The 7850 is a gigabyte WF and it also is running fine for 5 to 10 mins and then going to black screen or no monitor input. Have tried various fixes mentioned and cant get it stable for any length of time

Have both off you checked to see if your Motherboard has Bios update? and if so DON'T update from Windows
Install from the Bios.

To give a bit more info on this as I have same board though have a 560Ti but had same problem, board should be running the latest BIOS (F18 I believe) also I had to drop the card to the bottom slot and increase the voltage from 1 to 1.05 which has cleared the issue.

I'm not sure about a motherboard bios update. I'll have a look to see if there is anything else.

People are suggesting to up the voltage which I have looked at, but I'm still confused as to whether this will potentially void the warranty? I've checked but I can't find anything. Is it common practice for manufacturers to void warranties if you mess with the voltages or not? Or is it more ambigious? I suppose if that's the case I'll ring them up and ask. Actually I'll do it anyway. Would still be nice to get a vague answer on that issue here though because I won't be able to ring anyone for a while.

Also, I'm not even sure exactly how I'm supposed to up the voltage. I can't do it on msi afterburner, apparently that has issues with some cards? Is there a simple way to do this, or is it even possible?

I hope you resolve this prettyboyfloyd, it's certainly a little bit frustrating! This forum is very helpful though

It will void you warranty, yes, but unless you explicitly tell them, they'll have absolutely no way of knowing if you've done it if you use AB :)

Have you unlocked voltage control in MSI AB?

yeah, I ticked the boxes in the settings and also edited the relevant lines in the .cfg. It won't even show the voltage in the first place, there isn't even a number there. After googling it I read that afterburner can't do anything with the voltages with cards from certain manufacturers. Are there any alternatives?

Remove Afterburner and try trixx and see if that will allow you. If this allows you to change the voltage just adjust it very small steps like 6+ onto the default voltages and test.

Can you try going into CCC and upping the power settings to +20 and seeing if that helps at all?

Can you try the card in another machine?

Unfortunately I don't have another machine, only another PSU and an old gpu lying around.

I'll have a look at CCC and try that. What do you suppose that will do?

Also on Trixxx I noticed on the settings something called ULPS. I tried to disable it as a notification came up advising me to do so but it kept reactivating. Would this be this relevant at all?

I'm just guessing and hoping for the best now :p

No idea I'm afraid, but I don't think it is relevant.

E: Could you lower the core clock until it works flawlessly?
