Will God accept you if you renounce religion?

If god is going to send me to hell for not believing, then I don't want to worship him anyway. What a douchey thing to do, build us with flaws and put us on a planet full of temptation and then say 'if you lack faith, or give in to the wonderful temptations I have created then I'm going to burn you in hell for eternity'.

If there is a god, I reckon he'll be like, "Well, you didn't believe in me, but you haven't led a life of evil so yeah, come on in". And if he isn't like that, then screw him.

I never said simply believing in Jesus gets you into heaven. Far from it. Jesus himself said many who call him Lord won't be going to heaven. But the scriptures are pretty clear that whoever denies the Son is not of God. To say that Christ is one of many ways completely undermines Christianity. Jesus said he is the way, the truth and life so this doesn't leave much scope for man to achieve salvation via other routes. If man can achieve salvation through various ways then what is the point of Christs death?

As that most well known verse goes: "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life."

I tend to agree with Jason on this. It seems pretty clear to me from scripture that salvation is obtained in only one way. If there were multiple ways to obtain eternal life then surely the death of Jesus need not have happened.

I believe that good works should be a trait of believers but it is salvation first, then good works as a result.

An example would be the guy that was supposedly crucified alongside Jesus. He was being put to death for his crimes, nailed to a crucifix. Doing good works wasn't really a feasible option for him!

It's a pretty rubbish quote though.
It's possible say for the government to do lots of things, but they don't due to freedom. It can be said god is exactly the same. God interfering in that way would remove people's right to have free will. You're also totally ignoring the god vs satan war, at least In the Christian faith.

Not all Christian religions believe in Satan.

No you see that child is suffering because God is all powerful yet, and kind and good, but.... its a test, or something.

Mans greed created poverty. I see billions being spent to launch astronauts into space and then I look around me and see the suffering of millions. We alone are responsible.

And lets get something straight, Christians believe that this world is in the hands of Satan.

Way to ignore my previous posts utterly annihilating you.

This. Man has some responsibility on how things are in the world. Society is very happy to attempt to remove God from every aspect of life but yet when the topic of evil/suffering comes up they are more than happy to pass blame.

Could you provide the scriptural reference for that please?

In John 12:31 Satan is referred to as the "ruler of this world". He is also called the "prince of the power of the air" in Ephesians 2:2. And references to Satan roaming the earth looking for someone to devour. He is the father of all lies that have been implanted into this world.

I watch Children in Need every now and then, possibly popping in a fiver if I feel generous. What about you?

Yeah, that solves poverty doesn't it. Most of that goes on stupid admin fees. Like that old adage goes: give a man a fish you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime.

And what are you doing about poverty?

I work extensively with women, human rights and sex worker groups, as well as being an advocate for evidence based policies. I firmly believe that through these things we can move humanity forward rather than backwards into the dark ages, filled with nonsense and superstition that you promote.

Again, you ignore the posts you cannot reply to.

Coward.

No, they are not, many people often blame each other for evil and suffering, this is a completely daft statement.

I go round and give food and clothing to the homeless. I fail to see how that means I can take the moral high-ground with anyone like you are doing. But I always remember that it is by grace I am saved, not works. There is nothing you or I could do to win the favour of God.
