Archos Gamepad

Actually looks quite decent bar the screen res. Why does it say HD 1080p when the resolution is 1024x600? And unsure of the random dual core. Nexus 7 still tempting me more. Unsure what kind of updates this thing will get. Still, looks very good for the price.

OCUK need to get these in, I messaged Gibbo about these earlier, waiting for response...

Getting one on the 19th, pretty excited.

The D-pad is individual buttons and not a rocker which is a major design flaw, but most people seem to use the analogue sticks instead.

Got mine today, SNES and Megadrive emulators are perfect, the N64 is close, but a few graphical glitches, the Ps1 is good apart from a bit of sound glitches. All perfectly playable.

The joystick nubs are a little stiff, and the d-pad that everyone moaned about if fine, not as good as the PSP but you really don't notice it.

Not sure about the battery life as I've been on it all day playing Diddy Kong Racing on the N64.

It's obviously not as good as a PS Vita, but I would certainly choose a gamepad over a Vita due to the sheer amount of free and cheap games available to it

I'll buy one after Christmas I think. I've got a GameKlip and PS3 controller for the Note 2 but I like the idea of a separate device.

New firmware's available to download.

http://www.archos.com/support/support_tech/updates_fwm.html?country=pt&lang=en

The fix list is:
December 27th, 2012

Fix an issue with several buttons pressed simultaneously.
Fix an issue with the display flickering.
Fix an issue with Google talk no sound on loudspeaker on video chat.

The install method is:
1. Download the update file « update.img » to your PC.
2. Connect the USB cable to your Archos and your computer.
3. Copy the « update.img » to the root of the Internal Storage. Do not place it into any folder of the Archos, just to the root level of the device.
4. Unplug your device of the PC.
5. The Archos will find the update automatically and display a message box offering to install this new firmware. Before tapping on "Install", you need to connect the charger/adapter DC-IN to your device.
