What is it with Manchester people?

Google is your friend. I googled it - Barmcake or Barm in Manchester, not bread bun.

A bread bun
Seems an odd phrase to me (and I'm not originally from manchester) although I suppose hotdog or burger bun isn't uncommon.
Pretty much everywhere in the country seems to call a bread roll/bun/barm/muffin a different thing.

Thinking about it... I did say "I'm just going to make a bread roll" to a friend of mine who is from Southport. He got really confused and then started telling me I was going to make a sub, not a roll.

Crusty roll made him loopy.

Try Yorkshire!

Breadcake, teacake, bread bun, scoff-le.

Ask for a Muffin - you get an American one.
