Had the bones of my PC now for 6 years, few bits have been replaced along the way but i feel its time for a new one

Currently have

1TB HDD - which im more than happy to take out and re-use
Geil 2x1GB DDR2 6400
A whopping Core 2 Duo 1.8GhZ
ATI HD4850 512MB
Still running windows XP
Antec NSK6500 Super Midi Tower with a 430W PSU

Still able to play Skyrim with decent settings, but i just feel its time :p

Recently bought a nice new monitor which is running at 1920 x 1080 and mouse / keyboard im fine with, also have 2 18x DVDRW which i could steal one of to keep costs down a bit and i also have a 5.1 system so could possibly just swipe the sound card out of this PC

With that in mind im looking for a new build, including windows 7, im not fussed about overclocking so silly amounts of cooling etc are not going to be needed.

Mainly used for gaming (would love to run skyrim at full res on all high settings ideally) and the odd bit of photoshop work.

Looking for something around the £600 mark, presuming i re-use the 1TB HDD / Soundcard / DVDRW i have, but will need a copy of Windows 7 in there unless i can pick that up from elsewhere...being able to re-use the case would be a possibilty, the rear fan has been replaced for better airflow and the PSU (bearing in mind it is 6 years old) could be removed and replaced, or even reused?

Would ideally like some USB ports on the front / top of the PC...strange request yes...but that adds to the fun of it no?:D So if a new case was to be used, this is kind of a must

So presuming i get a new case and PSU, and after reading a number of other "spec me" threads i have come up with :

YOUR BASKET
1 x Gigabyte ATI Radeon HD 7850 OC Windforce 2X 2048MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card w/ FARCRY3, Sleeping Dogs & Dirt Showdown PC Games £155.99
1 x Intel Core i5-3450 3.10GHz (Ivybridge) Socket LGA1155 Processor (77W) - Retail £146.99
1 x Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 64-Bit - OEM (GFC-02050) £79.99
1 x MSI Z77A-G43 Intel Z77 (Socket 1155) DDR3 Motherboard - FREE Alpenföhn Civetta Cooler!! £72.98
1 x XFX Pro 450W Core Edition '80 Plus Bronze' Power Supply £43.99
1 x Crucial V4 32GB 2.5" SATA-II Solid State Hard Drive £38.99

Added a small SSD for installing windows and possibly photoshop on...again not a necessity if other parts can be upgraded with the cost of this.

Looking to possibly buy this at the end of the month...so i know the few things on offer may need to be changed out by then, but just gives me the base of something to work round :)

Nice build, changed 1 thing, and gave you a CPU to think about:

You'll be better of with a 128gb SSD for Win7, you'll be seriously pushed with a 32gb. You could go down to 64 if you really needed to save
CPU - If you planning on overclocking, I'd get one of these instead: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CP-404-IN&groupid=701&catid=6&subcat=567 loads of headroom to clock to mid-high 4ghz mark.

very much doubt i will be overclocking, so something that just runs well at stock is preferred

As stated in OP, i only have XP disk, am going to see if i can get windows 7 cheaper than ocuk sell

Hey dude, been a while :)

Win 8 upgrade is very cheap atm, if you can stomach it that is.

I went with a 3750k for the Overclocking potential, never even had the need to Overclock fantastic chips tbh.

Everything gotta be brand new?
a 6950 from the MM at ~£80-100 woudl be a crakcing card to pair with a 3570k

Hey :D

Just the look on win8 puts me off, id much prefer 7

Nah i keep looking through the MM for bits, id happily make the entire thing from second hand stuff if its a decent part for a decent price

Ok, presuming i can get Windows 7 from elsewhere, what can be upgraded slightly with the money saved from having to buy the OS?

How would i stand for upgrading this in say a year or two time, a new GPU and more RAM should keep it running sweet enough shouldnt it?

Im so indecisive when making purchaes of this magnitude haha

Never any point waiting for something better..............always something else on the horizon.

Your basket looks good. Don't forget in a year or 2's time you could clock your CPU, add another GPU and have a completely 'new' system

Provided your mobo is xfire'able.

Job

You should be fine with upgrading your RAM (there will be two empty slots on the board) and GPU (as long as the PSU is able to power it).

I would consider getting the overclockable CPU, though as being able to OC the CPU down the line may help extend the life of the system.

Looks like the mobo is crossfire-able so thats good, have opted for the i5-3570k instead, taking the postage off its still JUST about £600 :p

The case and Mobo are out of stock at the minute though :( as is the SSD but i can just swap that with the corsair one that lukey boy suggested

As nice as that case is, and the 3GB GPU, it is a tad over what i was wanting to spend, and would prefer to get the SSD now if windows is being installed onto it so i dont have to faff around at a later date re-installing it all etc :)

Fair point :) This lot is just over £600 and is in stock at time of going to press:D Also by selling the free games that come with the gpu you would be under the £600 mark too.

The case gets a nice review:

£20 over i can deal with...not loving that case though, and i cant find one i like as i keep seeing the on initially spcced and realising its out of stock haha

Might just wait for the new Wednesday deals and see what comes up, the GPU only goes up £15 but seems to be a very decent card that everyone is speccing for peoples systems.

Unless i can find myself a case i like that isnt stupidly expensive that is :D

Ok based on the new sale stuff...what can we do? At work at the minute but i see the cpu has come down and there are some nice looking ssds :)
