Ditto - that's so useful! The EE muppet on the phone assured me that there was no way to check data usage with wp8 at this time ...

Oh and does anyone know how to fix the bug whereby no updates come in via the store? It's driving me a bit nuts - the tile doesn't badge and I have to go into the app page manually to get updates.

This is pretty petty.

Update 2: Google has issued a statement on the situation to Gizmodo:

The mobile web version of Google Maps is optimized for WebKit browsers such as Chrome and Safari. However, since Internet Explorer is not a WebKit browser, Windows Phone devices are not able to access Google Maps for the mobile web.

Update 3: Microsoft provided a short statement to Gizmodo as well, simply saying that

Internet Explorer in Windows Phone 8 and Windows 8 use the same rendering engine.

Meh..... Oh look we have Nokia / Bing Maps.... lol

And it just happened to happen the day after the American competitive chaps let them off the hook. Still Europe to go though.

gMaps application still works for those in need of a Google maps fix.

Be nice to see MS push out an IE update that strips all Google served ads by default for all versions of IE going back to 6 as they are presumably "optimised" for webkit browsers and have a negative impact on MS customers browsing experience ;) :D

That won't happen as MS would be sued. lol. ;)

I know, shame though, with the FTC results Google have been given Carte Blanche to get away with murder for the next few years. As long as they chip away bit by bit and don't do a single move to raise too much fuss people will continue to be blind to their behaviour.

All the Google fans are out on the forums just yelling "lol M$ is the convicted monopolist, Google do no evil, even the FTC US Government agree". /sigh. MS behaved badly but that was almost 20 years ago and they were dragged through the courts for it. Sure they all need to be kept an eye on but I'm getting increasingly uncomfortable with Google extend it's control over "the internet" for a large proportion of casual users and no one seems to be concerned, presumably until it's too late and we're all subscribing to the Googlenet.

On the bright side Google really must see WP8 as a potential threat, the EAS/Gmail move followed by this maps step are not something you do if you see a platform as being of no significance.

This is hilarious. By that logic it should be redirected for Opera mobile as well.

Oh wait, it isn't.

I hope someone is forwarding this stuff to the European competition investigation team as they've not yet ruled on Google.

Sadly, I don't think it will raise any questions over Google. However, they are normally very quick to raise problems with MS. ;)

Ya think Google would be nicer to MS with all that MS has done for them..without a OS to haver been working from they would not have existed.

Guys,

I want a cheap case that the phone can easily clip in and out of - if such a thing exists?

I have an old TomTom windscreen mount, I can mod it to permanently attach the case to it, so when I'm in the car I just clip it in and go. :)

Any suggestions?

Oh and thanks Mr J about your photo app recommendation, shall try it out.

Still loving my very simple click on and off case, have a few of them but this has a nice soft textured feeling in the hand, only a few pound as well from a popular auction site.
Be VERY wary if you own a white phone with ANY colour solid plastic cases as I found out the colour can stair into the white plastic.

My phone just rebooted.

I had internet sharing on and had my surface connected to it.
Decided to turn on Bluetooth and bam....rebooted.

Using the original firmware in my unlocked red device from clove

Did this a few times to make sure it wasn't a one off...and it wasn't. Anyone else have this bug??
