Which handheld to get (no troll)

I've got both and the majority of my playtime is on the Vita. The time I spend on the 3DS is mostly playing old DS games I missed when my Lite died or replaying old favorites whereas the Vita is providing some pretty cracking games. My PS3 and 360 are pretty neglected now with my Vita backlog.

Indeed, although the Vita had a horrible launch, Its really gaining steam now. My brother has had one since launch, and he says himself that he seems to play it more so than his 3DS or PSP.

I've got both and play the Vita a lot more, there aren't heaps of games but there are more than enough to fill hundreds of hours. I've also bought a few older games like Tactics Ogre which are awesome on the Vita screen.

I hope the Vita has more success, the hardware certainly deserves it even if Sony's marketing and approach doesn't.

im glad too see the love for the Vita, i know its because the forum members generally are more hardcore gamers but its nice to know it has a backing and i just hope it gets the developer backing to make it live upto the potential it has.

one thing i would like to see copied from the Wii U is being able to stream any game playing on a PS3 on the vita, i know a few are possible so its going in the right direction, even if its only close range by bluetooth or local wifi i think Sony taking that idea from the Wii U would be a great benefit to the Vita

Sadly Vita's sales are so horrible this isn't going to happen, publishers aren't going to release games on a console that sells so badly.

This is coming from someone who owns both a Vita and a 3DS.

Its just a shame that the Vita never got its own version of NHL 13. If it did I doubt I would ever be off it.

I have both and I have more games for the vita and I do think its a better more complete handheld with a bigger screen duel analog etc

Just use you mobile phone like everyone else nowadays.

The only handheld console that still has a market I think will be Nintendo's, for the kids who are too young to own mobile phones.

Don't agree with that. Many people want a handheld with physical gamepad buttons, ruling the mobile phone out. And there is a market outside Nintendo for handheld consoles. JXD are doing good for example for people wishing to use emulators and i'm sure there will be more devices appearing - Archos gamepad for instance which has recently launched, albeit not the best quality.

But publishers are releasing games on it.

I mean games that sell systems, where's all the Capcom, Square Enix etc games?

Non of the big Japanese publishers have anything good announced and why should they when the 3DS is selling massively more consoles than the Vita, last week the 3DS sold over 400,000 consoles in Japan, compared to 21,000 Vita's, why would a big publisher support a console that is selling so badly?

Capcom have published games on Vita?

Japanese market is not really the whole story, if you just looked at that market then you would say the 360 is a flop and nobody buys it. Vita could sell more but it's not really as bad as the Japanese very unique market suggests.

They published launch games, there's been nothing since.

The 360 is a different story, that's a Microsoft console which has never done well in Japan, the Vita is a Sony console and the PSP did very well over there.

The numbers may be different but the Vita is doing just as bad in other territories the 3DS is still out selling it in both the US and Europe.

The games that Sony were hoping would change things (COD and Assassin's Creed: Liberation) did hardly anything for their sales.

If the Vita lasts much past 2013 I'd be very surprised.

Does not really matter what the 3DS is selling though does it? Vita has sufficient numbers to keep publishers on board.

Just looked at the Vita future releases......wow, do they look tiny compared to the 3DS release list.

I haven't picked my Vita since completing Uncharted on release, I brought a 3DS on release and brought the 3DS XL to keep in the house last month. I play the 3DS a lot more because Nintendo have put more effort into releasing games since the decline. Sony has done nothing with the Vita.

Advertising COD for the Vita isn't good enough, nore is the game for that matter.

Does it though? There's only around 2-3 million Vita's worldwide compared to over 22 million 3DS's. If you were a publisher would you release a game with a potential audience of 22 million or 3 million?

I'm sure you couldn't even list 5 high profile games for the Vita coming out this year from a publisher other than Sony.

Other than Soul Sacrifice what big game is even coming out in the next 6 months?

Even IGN doesn't have great hopes for the Vita.

The mistake they made was releasing stuff like Assassins Creed and CoD for the Vita at the same time as the 'proper' games on the consoles. Yes, it saves them money in advertising because they can just tack the Vita games on to the ad and promotional material, but it meant the Vita versions were mostly ignored, and people are unlikely to want to purchase a game for their 360/PS3 as well as their Vita at the same time.
