I signed up for the Cheshire Cat sportive today. Looking forward to it now :)

It'll be my first one!

I'm tempted now, just seen where it starts so I could start from home

{Edit}

Just read through the PDF and seen the climbs listed. I ran the "The Yeld" (on the 100 mile route) during my marathon training in 2011 and remember blowing out my ears by the top (Garmin track)

I commute for about the same sort of time so I'm guessing ~10 miles each way? I'd wear through my jeans in about 2 weeks :D

I've done a 116 mile ride in jeans shorts, I just find I'm a lot more comfortable in dedicated gear and then get changed at work. What with all the sweating, road grime, exhaust and sweat smell etc etc.

Yeah, i bought Levi Commuters and theyve held strong, around the crotch due to the double strengthened crotch

would recommend!

Have entered the Lionheart - 100KM.

A friend in Surrey asked if I fancied the Spring Onion. Am going to have a look and see what that's like. Anyone done that?

*Edit*

Can't do it - it's the same day as the Lionheart :(

Minty, you working this Thu or Fri? I'm off and I fancy doing that loop me and Pete did on Sat, but doing the Rake @ Ramsbottom while I'm there.

Let me know :)

If you want a clearer picture of where the Rake is, look at my ride from the end of November, when me and PC did it. Well, he did it... I gave up and pushed the bike up!

Heh. Just checked the base mile blast challenge on Strava... Apparently someone in Cambridge has done nearly 6,000 miles in 6 rides in 7 days. Seems legit.

EDIT: Ah, it's fixed itself.

Hi mate, im in work :(

I work 6 days a week most weeks so the majority of the time i only get to go out on sundays. I tend to get one saturday of a month where i can go out as well.

I fancy doing that loop that you guys did though, looked like a good'n.

Yeah I've scoped it out on street view. It looks brutal but I'm well up for giving it a go. I guess it'll let me know whether I need to chuck a cassette with lower gearing on my bike too. I checked mine, it's a 12-27 so I'm guessing yours is a 12-34ish with the different in cadence we both had going up that hill.

Edit: No worries minty. I'll just head up myself. I'll probably do myself a mischief chasing segments like I usually do when I'm solo but oh well.

Also, I'm busy most saturdays too (so I miss most rides with Pete & co) so it's usually sundays I go out. Give me a shout via trust when you're next free and we'll do one of our own. I'm busy this sun but after that I'll be free for the following 3 sundays.

Hi all!

I've managed to break the pedals on my bike so I'm after some replacements. It's a road bike but I only use it for short (<5mile) rides so I don't really want clipless on this one. Can anyone recommend some good (preferably strapless) caged pedals? I've seen some about on other bikes but I'd like some recommendations if possible before I buy some.

Budget is up to £30, would only want to spend more if it was really worth it.

I think mine goes to 30 at the top. I'm not sure you were in your biggest ring at the back when I looked at yours? Maybe your shifter isn't getting it right over?

Jeez that rake climb looks brutal

Yeah, I know. I've felt sick after getting to the top of Moor Rd @ Anglezarke a couple of times trying to beat my PRs and that looks way worse.

I don't know why I want to climb hills so much. I'm 200lbs+, semi-asthmatic (only affects me when I exercise) and have terrible knees.

I'm sure I'd be amazing at it if I dropped to 170lbish but at the moment it's tough going...

Yeah, I remember that. I just hadn't shifted down that's all. There was a few times I shifted into that gear when going up towards belmont but none of those hills were particularly steep so I'd have felt a bit of a coward using my easiest gear all the time.

Any of the Wellgo LU 900 series cage pedals are bulletproof. I've got them on my daily with metal toeclips and they've lasted for years, god knows how many miles they've got on them. You just add your choice of toeclip (i.e. metal or resin) onto the front of them.

Sounds good, thanks! :)

Ballot for the Ride London 100 now closed. Fingers crossed! Who else entered?

Me, and my mate who doesn't own a bike, hasn't cycled for years, is rather overweight but is getting married in May and reckons he'll be able to get in shape to get a ridiculous time - it should be amusing when i take him for his first ride!
