twice?? how u manage that

I entered in the opening day but I did it on my iPhone. I then got an email last week telling me that I had started my entry but didn't complete it. I assumed my original entry had failed so I did it again but with a different email address.

I'd also moved house in between so I've got two different addresses and email addresses on my entries.

I really hope one of them works.

I didn't bother entering the ride london thing, seemed kinda pricey and as I live a fair distance from London (although got family in East Sussex so not that far away) I didn't see the point over the variety of other sportives available?

Thanks to the base miles challenge on Strava (only aiming for 200 miles, but that would be a new monthly record for me) I did a bit of a first today, really minor but for the first time rather than take the shortest route home from work (~5.5 miles) I took a convoluted 'scenic' route which was ~10 miles, was really quite nice as well, except for the flood/big puddle, which was cold and wet :p

I think it's likely to spur me on a fair bit as well. I'm at 79 miles for the year already, which isn't bad at all considering it's January... I'm hoping to get to 200, though 400 is too far. I'll be happy to finish in the top half of entrants, to be honest.

I hope they keep up with these challenges throughout the year. It'll be quite fun to see how I fare with them.

I entered too.. no idea what time I put down though. Would love the chance to do it without having to beg my friends and family for money tbh

I've been kinda lazy so far, only done 2 days commuting (out of 3 possible realistically) and a really short on new years day, nothing at the weekend at all which was just bad, but I do think it will spur me on to continue to cycle through the month, especially trying to beat my work colleagues. If I just stick with commuting, and do it every day, that'll put me around ~230 miles, I was looking at combinations earlier that would get me to the 400 mark, but don't think it'll happen :)

Potentially a tricky question, but which clipless pedal has the widest platform? I used to get really bad numbness with SPDs and moving to SPD-SLs has alleviated this mostly, but I'm due a new set of cleats and it might be an opportunity to try a new pedal entirely. Does anyone use Look or Speedplay pedals for example?

Currently top of OCUK strava base challenge. Come on guys put some effort in!

Awww i'm last :( I'll probably stay there for a while as well, need to focus on MTB for a race at the end of the month.
...but it's currently in bits being rebuilt, so i'm on my turbo for now.

SPD-SL cleats are a little wider than look cleats, but i think the actual contact area with the pedal is roughly the same. No idea about speedplay.

New to road cycling, well cycling in general, so decided to add myself to the Strava group. Might provide a little extra motivation. Is there anyone in particular I should message about joining?

Need to pull my finger out, havent cycled since 27th Dec, commuting tomorrow anyway (26 mile round trip) all being well.
My "best" bike needs a good clean, still gritted/dirt covered since the last 2 rides.

I have zero so will be at least joint last..... :p

Used both SPD-SL and Speedplay, contact area on Speedplay is about the size of a 2p coin. I use SPD-SL now, no problems.

Yay! Wanna meet up for some training? How long have you been a member?

I did the 50 RT in 3 hrs 12 mins last year. Got lost at end. Going for under 3 hrs this year.

yeah sounds good mate

only been a a member about a month, but been road cycling for about 3 months

I ride with Alasdair ever wednesday and sundays

Think I'll stick with the SPD-SLs then, my Google-fu suggests the same.

New job means I'm in Manchester two days a week and working from home on the others; not going to be much mileage from me this side of March.

Have you popped in to The Bike Rooms on Deansgate yet? Nice £10.5k Giordana Node 4 spec Dogma in the window. :D

I dont think it needs any approval or anything for you to join, but let me know who you are if you want your real name and forum name added to the text description of the group.
