Have you popped in to The Bike Rooms on Deansgate yet? Nice £10.5k Giordana Node 4 spec Dogma in the window. :D

First day today and I can't see myself going far from Salford Quays; 05.15 start to catch my flight this morning means I'm knackered and should really be asleep. Leaving the office and straight to the airport at 17.00 tomorrow.

I was told i needed wider handlebars at my bike fitting and i finally ordered some zipp ones yesterday. Got a bit giddy and ordered a matching stem, seatpost and handlebar grip :)
should go well with my zipp 101's

also ordered a sealey torque wrench today and some bits.

No more buying bike bits this month...i think

yeah sounds good mate

only been a a member about a month, but been road cycling for about 3 months

I ride with Alasdair ever wednesday and sundays

Ha! Alasdair is a legend! :D

Before I climbed the Tourmalet last year he sent me a very nice motivational letter, including a couple of photos of him at the summit of the Tourmalet when he climbed it himself.

He rubs a lot of people up the wrong way and can be cantankerous, but I think he's awesome. I have a lot of time for him. Oh, and he's ******* fast for a man in his 70s as well, could show many a younger man a clean pair of heels ;)

Let's take further discussion off-forum. Send me an e-mail: hincapie[dot]george[at]gmail[dot]com and we can make some arrangements.

Ooh, I could do with a torque wrench. I'm a bugger for overtightening & snapping headset/stem bolts.

I've just been out and bought a couple of bottle cages/bottles. I've never really bothered taking food/drink out with me but now I'm doing longer rides I need to start doing. I felt like crap on sun after doing that 45miler through the hills on sat without proper hydration. Kudos to Vonhelmet too for lending me his inhaler seeing as I forgot mine. Felt loads better after that.

Check carefully if you're buying a mechanics torque wrench (which i assume sealey is?). Car wrenches often dont do the small torques required for bike bolts.

Not surprised at all that you find similarities with somebody like that :p

How do I find the OcUK group on Strava?
Use this link because the search on Strava is crap.

I think I've managed to find a nearby 10 mile stretch of open road with no traffic lights, awkward junctions, roundabouts, nasty bends or anything else to get in the way, apart from climbing about 4-500 feet in the middle of it. I quite like the idea of being able to just start cycling and go for that kind of distance without having to stop for anything. I'll have to get out there and give it a go sometime soon.

I now await someone from the arse end of Scotland turning up to brag about having a 50 mile stretch on their doorstep ;)

Anyone have any experience of buying groupsets? i need to buy a set and my intention originally is to go for full Ultegra (mechanical) in dark gray, im not sure about any others than Shimano tho, are they worth looking at?

Buying a groupset at retail works out very expensive, its nearly always worth just buying a new bike with the groupset unless your custom already, and swapping parts between the 2 and selling one

I think i could comfortably go at least 20 miles in almost any direction from here without coming to a set of traffic lights.
Climbing 4-500ft would be a luxry though :p
