Taken from the wholesalesforum....

Just got off the phone to a good friend of mine.

He sells tv brackets on Amazon and his own website. On amazon he turns over between £20,000 and £30,000 a month - until last week.

His sales just took a dive overnight and he couldn't figure out why.

Until he got in touch with his Chinese supplier...

Who now won't deal with him.

It turns out that Amazon have been in touch with this supplier and gave them a massive order on the proviso that they don't deal with my friend.

Amazon now sell these TV brackets and my buddy's business has been destroyed...

Not good!

This is the downside of being a seller on eBay / Amazon, everyone can see what you're selling and it isn't difficult for someone else to come along and undercut your prices ...

The Amazon marketplace is a great idea for them - they can see what products customers want to buy without taking any risk on it themselves, and then jump in if demand gets high enough.

Sadly its the risk you take dealing through Amazon.

Your friend was happy to exploit Amazon's massive customer base and (if your figures are true) was making a pretty penny from someone else's hard work and brand name.

He took that risk knowing that if he had an amazing product then he'd get big sales at the risk of being gazumped by bigger businesses with larger economies of scale who could also sell that item.

Tell me, how would his business had done if he hadn't gone to Amazon at all?

Factories making these kind of items are 10 a penny in China, so shouldn't be difficult to find a new supplier.

You only have to look on sites like AliExpress & AliBaba for the sheer number of clones and fakes that Chinese manufacturers will willingly sell you.

Really? 1 seller dishing out 1000 tv brackets a month?

Agreed, especially with the sheer amount of tv brackets available when you google for one. I reckon that £20k-£30k in one particularly good month but i struggle to believe demand is that high on a regular basis with such a large number of suppliers.

Its not implausible hes making 20-30K worth of sales on them - profit an entirely different story. Its quite suprising what will and won't sell sometimes.
