overclocked and normal core temp

hey all, just got a new pc and it has the INTEL Ivybridge i5 3570K that has been overclocked i was using core temp as i saw a few people mentioning it on here and was wondering what sort of temp i should be seeing? it seems to average around 45-50 under little usage is this too high and should i look into improving the cooling?

depends how high its overclocked,fixed cpu voltage? or does it clock down at idle

and what cpu cooler?

should be around 25-30c idle and around 50c gaming and anywhere upto 80c full 100% stress testing
 
was it factory overclocked? its clocked with a fixed voltage then and not through offset

i wouldnt want to mess up the settings,but it shouldnt be hard to get offset working
 
sorry i am a bit of a beginner
so it comes overclocked to 4ghz as standard but i do have a piece of software installed that allows me to change it from the standard 3.4 to a max 4.4ghz if i wanted. not to sure about the voltage, is there a way i can find out?

you need to press delete at startup and go into the bios,idk what make/model motherboard your using? but you need to see what the stock cpu voltage is

ok if you downlaod and look in cpu-z and post how much cpu voltage is being used i can tell you what to try
 
seems a lot for 4ghz to me?

do you have a usb memory stick? if you plug that in and press f12 for each bios page it will take a screenshot of each bios setting,that way you wont lose your current settings should an oc attempt fail and reset the bios

id do that first then you can try setting

cpu voltage response to fast

cpu voltage to normal
cpu llc loadline calibration to medium
dvid (dynamic voltage) to +0.030 to start with,may need more/less

look for and enable eist/intel speedstep and c1e c3/c6

all those will be in the m.i.t section of the bios just look through each page carefully and set each settings and save/exit

only do this once youve copied your current bios/oc settings

with those settings cpu will auto downclock at idle and use 1600mhz cpu speed and less than 1v,and shootup to 4ghz full cpu voltage if needed automatically

okay cheers will give this ago so just so i can understand. basically at the moment its running at a fixed high level even though i am not using it so the temp is quite high.
 
It won't enter idle clocks in the BIOS,only in windows use realtemp to monitor core temps

If its running a fixed CPU voltage it will run 1.36v and 4ghz all the time hence high temps,you should only see those temps when your gaming or video editing or stressing the cpu,

If you use dvid for the most part,web browsing ect CPU speed stay around 1600mhz and CPU idle temps will be 28-30c,that's what I'm getting

sorry i have found the response and loadline but its set to auto and won't let me change it

so i changed the ones i could, i have seen an improvement i am looking a realtemp now and its around 35 per core

but the cpu speed is still 3500mhz+

it should let you change it,will it let you set to manual? and then medium?

you need to look for intel speedstep and eist in the bios and enable it

the mb manual should show you weher everything is
 
yeah i looked though the manual last night and found all the options it just wouldn't let me change some of them but would let me change some. so the average temp it down but the speed of the cpu is still high when i would have thought it should be idle.
