A Closer Look

The Package

You would be forgiven for thinking you had purchased an oversized laptop as you bound up the stairs with a box measuring 32" x 16.5" x 9" and weighing in at just over 12kg lightweight compared to some.

The Packaging

A small incision with a sharp implement is not allways the best way to go when dealing with a long seal that could be fairly close to the frame or even the screen. There is a good 1" before you come into contact with the inner packaging so your safe.

The inner packaging is good quality, a multi layered corrugated cardboard "T Bar" construction covers the screen edge which in turn is covered in a generic foam slip cover. Was a little disappointed to find the stand was not completely covered as if someone had forgotten to tape it up but no damage a slight oversight I can forgive.

The Stand

Not unnatractive solid and allows the screen to sit a little further back when attached to it, very handy if your pushed for space or faceing a close quarters wall. Movement was smooth with no restriction in evidence, one small criticism would be to have the "cable tidy" hole either extended or raised to use the extra 2" of stand handy if you have a wealth of cables to manage.

The Panel

2 small catches secure the stand to the panel taking moments i noticed the vesa mount screws are Philips head hurrah! no more hunting for exotic shaped screwdriver heads.

Connections

Power - power for an optional sound bar - VGA - DisplayPort - Mini DisplayPort - DVI - HDMI - DisplayPort out - 3.5mm line out - USB 3.0 upstream - 2x USB 3.0 downstream.

The display port 1.2 allows you to connect upto 4 screens through one dsp connector (daisy chaining) almost 22gb/s in a full 4 lane chain !
Display port 1.2 must be activated through the osd as it comes with a default of dp 1.1.

The power button and four horizontal capacitive buttons ( with a right whiny sound which can be switched off ) are your osd in a bright white glow nice change from blue led of the U2711.
The display manager software allows multiple snap/screen configurations just try them all until you find something that suits your workload.

Overview

I could have switched it on and went into over-waffle but it works with zero defective pixels the settings are all down to your own personal taste so no need for me to go on.

Hope its helped someone that's thinking of buying one while they are on this week only @ £479.99!

Thanks to Overclockers for the excellent service on this one especially Mr 5UB who had to crack the whip with those warehouse slackers to make sure it was dispatched :)

For now its time for a little 16:10 Lego Lord of The Rings :D

Well done jumping in, if I just had spent the best part of 1K on some new wheels for my car I would have probably purchased one.

I would have done all the technical jabber but I don't know enough, would be happy to test settings or whatnot if people want to know something specific.

I would take the wheels back HEADRAT .... and buy a set of ski's :)

Got this in a box too ready to set up and test next week. Looking forward to it as its something quite different for a change. I bet movies are also great on it :)

It was this or the U2713HM but I chose the 27" due to the higher vertical resolution!

This does look amazing for media though :p

Any backlight issues? I'm just about to return my 3rd U2713HM for a full refund from Dell and I dont really want to have to go this again.

Very very slight backlight bleed on top edge but its certainly a lot less than I have seen on other new monitors, hope that helps :)

I might still treat myself dammit!!

Might wait for Baddass review (so please hurry up) ;)

I might be tempted to put my 3 x 2407FPW (A04) on the MM to help fund.

Same as me. They offered me this as a replacement or a refurb 2711.

Does look tempting. Will prob take getting use to.

I may just get refund as I got it cheap on promo before Xmas

Sorry to be a pain but,

have you had a chance to game on it yet ?

Not really played anything serious on it yet just been getting used to it which has been fairly easy so far.

Just re-installed my steam games if you want any in game shots from any of these happy to oblige :)
