General Headphone Audio

I've been using my AKG K280 Parabolic headphones for years now.
In fact, I reckon they are older than some of the members of this forum!! :D
 
Just added these to my collection as a cheeky present to myself for getting into Oxford (yay)

Surprisingly good even pre burn in, nice and reasonably balanced EQ for this sort of headphone and not disgustingly priced either :) These will probably replace my XB500s for laptop listening and maybe even a walkabout pair partly because they look awesome. :) I prefer the raw sound to most of my other headphones (HD202, Sony XB500, Sennheiser CX500, Sony ZX100, Creative Wrath Alpha are the mains at the moment). Would be interesting to run it against my NS1000s but they're not getting fixed any time soon.
 
Just get an amp or an amped sound card? I'd be surprised if those are particularly hard to drive, though I'm not sure on the resistance levels. I don't imagine a headset as popular and cheap as that could be hard to drive
 
Sennheiser HD600's for ultra laid back relaxing revision work :o

JVC HA-S500 from Japan for movies and metal.

If I'd bought the JVC's first, I would have been sorely disappointed with the price difference between them and the Sennheiser's.
 
Decided to get some Razer Chimera 5.1 during Razer's CES2013 50% peripheral sale on the online store.

These will replace my HD595 with tack on mic.

I hope they are good as I listened to a member over Team Speak who has them and his voice was crystal clear.

I'm also hoping the cans are just as good when it comes to sound quality.

They won't be. I listened to some music through a friends Razer Megalodon 7.1's and the sound quality was absolutely appalling. Litterally the worst cans I have ever heard for music bar some £2 Cosonic's, and the Razer's were £129.99, so it is fair to assume that Razers £169.99 offering will not be much better.

The HD595 will be a million leagues ahead in terms of sound quality, it isn't even fair to compare the two.

The mic might be good, but the cans will almost certainly will not be.

The £39 Denon AH-D1100's arrived today and sound wise... Meh.

I'm going to see how they are after running in for a day or two before deciding if they're worth keeping.
They're only for my mum to use on her bedroom tv, but even so, build quality doesn't look like it'll go the distance and the earpads are quite hard. They do have decent enough ear clearance though.
I find it very hard to believe they had the nerve to sell these for around £100. If I'd paid that much, I'd be fuming.

If anyone cares, I'll let you know if things change after a burn in :D

Did you get them of bay?
I was looking at them but the price seem to low, I was thinking they are fake.
 
Just got some Hifiman HE-400 headphones after reading people prefer them over HD650's:



I tried them on for about 30 seconds before taking them off and putting my Sennheisers back on. They are quite heavy and considerably less comfortable than Sennheiser HD595 which are so light you can forget you're still wearing them.
I should have got the HD650 instead but there was no way to know.

I was waiting in till you say something similiar.
595 are great headphones I dont get why you would change them if they still work just fine.

I thought the left driver had stopped working properly but had just fallen out of place. The driver diaphragm, casing and headband have all cracked due to age.

Everything has seemed to sound a lot less detailed and distorted in more recent times too.
 
They look like they weigh a tonne :D

I don't think I'll ever depart with my 595, so light and comfortable and the NAD amp powers them supremely.
 


I can recommend the new Philips X1s, have had them for around a month and they are great. They are £270 on Philips website, but Philips often have vouchers, ended getting them for £170. Reviews have been fantastic, many owners prefer them over much more expensive cans.

Have used them for music and gaming through a Fiio E17 amp and I am loving the sound. The X1s also sound good straight from a ipad and my phone, so amp may not be required for some. The cable is also changeable, which is good as the one supplied is 3 meters. They are also the most comfortable headphones I have worn which helps for long gaming sessions.

They leak A LOT of sound, so indoor use only. Also the ear pads while great quality, can not be replaced.
