Which retail store going be next to go ??

I hardly ever go to retail stores now. The goverment need to do somthing about the prices of shops and the tax charged if the highstreet is going to change

You can see them doing that? They've been doing and already done that quite a bit.

Loads of the stores are now "Currys PC World"

Yeah but they are still on a downward decline the changes are just slowing the bleed out and a lot more are to come before they stabalise.

EDIT: Have to admit didn't quite realise the extent that had actually changed - don't really go anywhere near the stores usually - tho aware of the process/internal state they are going through.

I'm thinking clothing or footwear chain of some sort will be next to go. Something middle of the road, anonymous brand, Pavers or Topshop or equivalent. If it's a coffee chain it will be some local name like Costa.

BHS or Argos.

Argos wont be going anywhere imo and the closure of comet was prob a nice boost for them.

the 2 argos in newcastle everytime I've been in have always had atleast 2-4 people at the collections desk and another 2-4 paying at the tills with a couple browsing the catalogues, I dont see argos going anywhere soon as they are pretty much the amazon of the high street with not much real competition since index went years ago

Maplins is usually dead when I visit them and the staff try to sell you goods not ideal for what you want. The catalog they provide is nearly a year out of date and the prices are sky high.

They will be going under at some point and to be honest after my experience with them, GOOD

:eek:In Maplins I saw an Nvidia 5500 AGP Graphics card going for £70 not too long ago. I had to do a double take.

Its not _that_ long ago I walked past one and saw nVidia 5950 Ultras for sale in the windows of one. Had to laugh - can't remember the price but I remember thinking "I just picked up a GTX260 for that much!".

Costa won't be going anywhere, anytime soon.

They are owned by Whitbread, who own Premier Inn, Beafeater, Brewers Fayre etc. Last I heard Costa is making a healthy profit, and are expanding further afield.

Our Homebase closed recently, thought they had gone until I saw there was still one in Sheffield.

Thornton's maybe a good call as they always advertise loads in our local paper for Xmas factory staff and didn't see anything this year, maybe most of the shops will close but the factory still produce for sale in supermarkets/internet

Be great if Maplins died, maybe just maybe, can a small independent in a much cheaper rent area pop up and actually have reasonable prices, I don't mind paying a little more when I need stuff fast, but Maplins make you bend over and don't even give you the common courtesy of a reach around.

If Maplins were to drop the consumer devices and go back to being purely specialist equipment and hobbyest componentry then they'd probably be OK.

If you're in need of a bunch of electronic components, you either go to Maplins or you wait an eternity for the likes of Farnell or RS to deliver.
