Which retail store going be next to go ??

im 31 and I wouldnt be seen dead in M&S clothes lol

Wouldn't buy stuff like t-shirts, shirts, trousers, etc. from them but they do some decent lines in stuff like socks, coats, etc. if you want something thats well made and long lasting rather than the tat a lot of places sell that falls apart after a few weeks.

I think of all the suggestions in this thread the only credible ones seem to be some of the random furniture chains or Maplins. Everyone else seems to be just listing stores they don't personally like or buy from on the time honoured assumption that everyone else thinks like them.

This.

Everyone is just slating their local well-known store because they were able to get what they wanted online from another well-known store.

Homebase, Argos, Mothercare, Waterstones and W H Smiths etc will be around for a long time yet.

Maplins is probably the only sensible shout.

Possibly PC world/currys but since comets gone that's more customers to them. Plus I think they are catching on as recently have put on some excellent deals online, better than competitors.

Wickes DIY stores, there's always more staff than customers in our local one whereas B&Q gets quite busy

Here's my dead pool list:=

Staples
Pets at home
CSL sofas
Dreams
Vision Express
Cargo

I hate PCWorld but I think it will survive as they have merged some stores into Currys which was a good idea and they will soak up business left over from Comet.

Sort of the opposite of this thread, but why are people quick to point out that mobile phone shops are doing well? Is this true? Admittedly I don't use my phone much, but I've never had to go into a phone shop in my life. I've always bought any phone related tech online. The phones on the shelf aren't even real so it's not like you can go in and try them (apart from size wise).

I don't know about Vision Express but a lot of people seem to go to spec savers and I know for a fact spec savers are worried about the likes of Asda and Tesco having their own in store opticians. So god knows where that leaves Vision Express in the pile.

They always seem fairly busy to me, You can ask to have a look at the real phone if you want and they have most as demo's somewhere in store (even if it's a staff members phone)

DSG are still leading the electronics market (inside info) so I don't see currys or pc world going anywhere soon, im gonna vote mothercare as they are in on the skids atm! lol

Why do people keep mentioning Argos? They're one of the few growing companies, and even more importantly their business model adapts very well to digital format.

because of the overheads they have. shock horror! people went into argos around christmas and it was busy. i went into hmv, that was busy too.

their business model may be adaptable but the burn on their stores is hammering them.

mothercare (as has been mentioned) is another one.

Mountain Warehouse near me is looking a bit worse for wear. They were clearing the majority of stock before Christmas but the lass behind the counter wouldn't let on to any issues. Business as usual she said, just liquidating some stock.
