£3k PC Spec

I love my tech but I struggle to justify you needing to spend so much money.

Half of that budget will buy something more than capable of playing latest games.

If it starts to feel slow then spend the other half of the budget at a later date on more up to date tech.

change the msi lighting for an asus matrix platinum. purely for colour matching of the motherboard.
YOUR BASKET
1 x Asus HD 7970 Matrix Platinum 3072MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card £439.99
Total : £451.39 (includes shipping : £9.50).

its like £100 more but its what i would do and i dont think your skint.

The DirectCU II 7970 is the same price as the MSI, it would match the colour scheme better than the MSI but it doesnt look as nice as the Matrix, and you would have to overclock it yourself to get it up to the level of the MSI/Matrix.

The catch is that the Matrix and the DirectCU II take up three slots, whereas the MSI takes up 2.

I will most likely spend as much on my next gaming setup. Yes you could argue that it is pointless, but computers are my hobby and my job. I could easily spend twice as much, which would be very hard to justify.

Is this a photo/video editing workstation or a gaming rig?

3k and only a single GPU running a 1440p monitor (which itself is generally aimed at creative professionals, not gamers) and a 3930k which is complete overkill for gaming and doesn't really offer much advantage until you add 2 or 3 gpu's and some fast ram (and even then, it's not a huge difference)? Sure, the 2011 socket may have more longevity, but still...

AMD do 3D too you know? And it's completely insane to suggest 2x 680s because they just don't remotely represent value for money, you can get the same performance with a pair of 7950s for half the price.

Not really! If the money is there and that is what they want, then so be it. The great advantage of nVidia is, not just the 3D, but the PhysX, which personally, I love.

670's are considerably cheaper than 680's, are almost litterally the same performance wise, match or beat 680's when overclocked, and offer all of NVIDIA's best features.

Calm it guys come on :D

The way I see it is that if you are going to spend £3K on a gaming setup, you want to be able to see everything that has been developed for that game. I wouldnt want to be in a game with someone who owns a £700 machine with a 660 SC (or even a £200 machine built from used parts with a GTS250 in it for example) who is gawping at physx effects, while i'm on my £3K machine wishing I could see them.

If you have the money, then you may as well pay a little bit extra to see everything.

You don't need that power supply, you can run that on the 850w XFX edition silver, get the 3770k with the differenceas games should start utilising more cores soon and it will handle the screen setup and SLI better. . Swap the Phanteks for the Alpenföhn, it's exceptionally good for a lot cheaper. Not much difference in them really. Swap the corsair ram for Samsung Green. Perfect rig!

Just putting my choice out there.

It's very valid when you're suggesting that they spend money on the products for the reasons you've given.

That's why I was saying barely any games actually even use PhysX, and 3D is available on AMD so you'd be spending twice as much for less performance and a feature that might or might not be used.

I understand that its your hobby and we all have things we like to spend our cash on, but in the current stagnant world of PC gaming (where nothing is pushing hardware properly), spending a fortune gives you no benefit.

Even when you're rich you still dont need to waste your pennies :)

When the next gen consoles come and PC gaming hopefully picks up, Then it would be cool to have a super computer
