Is this true? Declaring points on insurance (you got after you started the policy)

I will declare the ones I had in Oct 2012, however, I will try and delay the ones I had yesterday for a month or two, even though its a risk, it should help me out.

Wrong, possibly, but maybe a risk I am willing to take.

As mentioned, they are email only customer services, have tried to call their claims line but they will not assist unless its a claim.

Just had another thought, my insurance company gives me an option to "Cancel" my policy myself, with a cooling off period of 14 days I think.

Surely if I am cancelling my own policy, and I get a policy elsewhere, I wont have to declare that "I have had my policy cancelled" by an insurance company, as I cancelled it myself? could this be a loop hole for my situation?

Already have, they wont help unless its for a claim.

Got no choice but to wait for an email reply.

I am going to take my documents to the police, atleast get that out the way. Then work on insurance.

Just wait then. If you keep faffing about trying to cancel, quote, ammend yourself etc you could make things much more complicated than they need to be!

You're not exactly going to be their first customer who has picked up points!

Alternatively, given that quotemehappy is just Aviva, you could phone Aviva's customer services

Have you actually read your policy documents? It was one of the first things asked and you never seemed to do it! Read the documents and they will tell you if you need to inform the company as soon as possible.

Legally you have no obligation to inform the company of any convictions until renewal time unless there is a specific clause within your policy documents. Get your reading glasses out and take the time to go through the documents carefully and look out for it. If there is no mention of it, then you do not need to inform them until you come to renew; although I suspect that when that occurs you would be better of changing insurer anyway!

When I got my TS10 the copper told me that I didn't need to notify my insurance company till renewal. I double checked this with him and asked if this wasn't insurance company specific and he told me again, no you don't need to notify them until renewal.

I have read through the documentation....

Was one of the first things I done...

Changes we need to know about
Please tell us as soon as you become aware of:
• Any changes to your circumstances which may affect this
insurance; or
• Any other facts noted within the ‘Information provided by you’
document and your schedule issued by us. Examples are
a change to the people to be insured, motoring convictions
for any of the people to be insured, a change of car, any car
modifications, conversion or a change in the way that the
car is used.

OK so it sounds like you need to tell them. So wait for a response to the email and stop getting in a flap about it!

Not being able to phone an insurance company would annoy me. I'm glad I don't just go with the cheapest random providers on comparison websites :p

if YOU cancel the policy, you need declare nothing to any other insurer.

If THEY cancel the policy because they now see you as uninsurable, discover information that has not been disclosed or you do not pay them as agreed at the start of the policy that's when you'd need to declare to other insurers.

See what they email back, it may be that they inform you another 3 points would mean they would no longer insure you - in this case cancel the policy yourself and go elsewhere (assuming they are not petty enough to just cancel the policy due to you no longer being uninsurable when you send the enquiry)

OK, I will wait for a reply.

Do you think it would be worth getting my producers out the way and taking them to the station ASAP? or wait until the insurance issue is resolved, looking at it, they just want to check your certificate at the station to make sure its under your name and you have the certificate.

I dont believe they do any deeper checking.

Get down to the station with your documents. That should have been the first port of call.

OK, I think I have everything on me today, I can print my certificate of insurance out on the web, so will get that sorted this afternoon, then worry about insurance.

Just tried to amend the quote I done through confused.com earlier, all I amended was took off the "have you had insurance cancelled etc" set it to "No" quote went from £960 down to £470 again...

Thats a right stinger.

I would be surprised if going from 3->6 pts means them cancelling your inaurance mid policy. Not getting quotes from an online system doesn't mean you were declined insurance. If I run a quote on my porsche 50% of insurance companies don't give a quote because I'm not in their target market, but that doesn't mean I've been refused or declined insurance. I'd be surprised if anyone gets quotes from more than 90% of comparethemarket...etc

Good news!!!!

Thanks for getting in touch.
I'm sorry but we wouldn't be able to add a claim or conviction to your policy if this has happened since your policy started. What you can do, is add this information on at renewal and your quote will be accurate based on this information.
This will not affect your policy or the outcome of any claims, so you don't need to worry.

Thank you,

Was totally worth running all those quotes, trying to ammend it online and talking about cancelling your policy then!
