Your not wrong its correct its one of many reasons XBL Gold annoys the hell out of me yet i still have it :(

I really wish MS would just do a similar service to PS+ and ditch the whole scheme as Gold just isnt that worth it

If you have a PS3 you can use netflix on that with no additional sub

Yep. I use the iPlayer on xbox to watch Africa.

Much as I'd like to use my Xbox to watch Netflix, I prefer the even the garbage sliverlight based web experience on my HTPC to spending £30 a year on gold.

The thing that annoys me even more in regards to gold is the huge number of adverts on almost every section on the dash. It's frustrating to be paying for gold and having lovefilm's advert playing constantly - "It must be looooove, love love".

1 advert per section, and you would have to physically scroll to the lovefilm one to hear it.

Exactly;

Live is better than the Playstation equivalent because we have to pay for it. Fact.

More updates, less downtime.

Having to have Gold for Netflix and other apps which are already paid for, is silly however.

Disagree, PSN has regular updates and the downtime isn't much of an issue and they communicate any extensions to the regular maintenance time well. I also prefer the fact that you get a lot of freebies with PS+ if you do want to pay.

I don't dislike Live but MS could learn a lesson from Sony, a pay wall that stops you using apps which can be used free on other consoles is daft.

I agree, having to pay for Gold just to watch Netflix, which you have already paid for, is stupid.

However I disagree with PSN being anywhere near as good as Live, as a service (PS+ aside).

Xbox live as a service used to be brilliant, now its completely bloated and confusing. 18 months ago id have without doubt have endorsed live over psn but not now, psn needs to be quicker but im guessing we wont see a proper update till the ps4, speed aside its a lot easier and user friendly now.

It's a fiver a month for an excellent and well maintained service. It's nothing and it gives you all the warnings you need before you purchase services that require Gold.

Anyone paying £5 a month for Xbox Live needs their head examined.

For some reason I always have the "1 month for £1" offer on my dashboard and I'm usually happy enough to pay that if I need it, but as a service it's not really worth much more to me, especially with all the adverts and the distinct lack of any decent 'free' content for paying members.

Gold is fine if you play online co-op or MP a lot of the time. I was happy to pay for a stable service when I used it but when my sub expires in March I won't be renewing it as these days I generally only play SP.

Be interesting to see what MS and Sony come up with when the new consoles arrive, though.

paying a sub for using the multiplayer feature is just wrong. And its not even dedi servers for a lot of the games. Dislike live for all the money grabbing features its brought to gaming.

I don't mind the fee, I get enough out of the service to make what I pay feel worth it. Sure it seems steeper now others have got into the action but eight years ago when I got my first Live sub the competitors were not as close as they have become so it felt like a premium service. Needing gold to use stuff you already pay for does seem to much though.

I wouldn't have expected that. That you have to pay twice.

Never activated gold subscription. Haven't got time or desire for hassle of online. Probably why I like games like civ/fallout/CandC

I don't mind the fee. £30 a year is hardly anything worth crying about. If you play online for even 10 hours then that's still an excellent cost:entertainment ratio.

I'll be buying the new Xbox in a heartbeat because it's still one of the cheapest forms of entertainment.
