I will switch out the Asrock board for the Gigabyte board - is there any specific reason asrock boards suck however?

As for the memory, I'm getting the single module 8gb chip so I can go up to 32gb at a later date if I need to

Poor warranty (2 years) the last year of that requires shipping to the Netherlands.

They use cheap parts.

I've had one, sold it on and about a week later it blew up.

Their current FM2 boards are dropping like flies too it seems,

Quite a number of people with issues in the above thread.

Oh wow, I shall avoid them then!
Any other recommendations

Modular PSU?

I.e you can remove some if not all of the cables from the PSU if you dont need to use them, this helps make a tidier build and can maybe help airflow a little better.

To use more than 16GB of RAM you need the Pro version of Windows fella. 8GB is ample for a gaming rig, use a dual channel kit for better performance over single channel

YOUR BASKET
1 x HIS HD 7950 IceQ BOOST 3072MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card (H795QC3G2M) £239.99
1 x Intel Core i5-3570K 3.40GHz (Ivybridge) Socket LGA1155 Processor (77W) - Retail £167.99
1 x Gigabyte Z77X-D3H Intel Z77 (Socket 1155) DDR3 Motherboard £112.99
1 x XFX Pro 850W Core Edition '80 Plus Bronze' Power Supply £82.98
1 x Patriot Viper "Black Mamba" Generation 3 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit (PV38G160C9K) £41.99
Total : £657.94 (includes shipping : £10.00).

That's Xfire capable if you want to add a 2nd GPU to the mix down the road. If you know you won't do this then you can save cash on the mobo (drop to the Z77-D3H) and the PSU (500-550W is ample).

At 100 posts you qualify for free P&P so there is no harm taking your time and discussing your options ;)

lol we'd need to stretch out the topic for another 48 posts from him 4-5 pages???

I'm surprised no-one had even asked what the rig is for. How can you give decent advice when you don't know what the intended use is?

There are other sections of the forum aswell he can post in, if he doesn't want to wait for free P&P fair enough. However he could do a build log for this build and that will help contribute to his post count and we can assist him through the build and overclocking the kit. Any further upgrades he can then exploit the free P&P.

He does have a pair of single channel RAM kits selected, so that = dual channel operation.

I might be wrong, but surely to have dual or quad channel ram, you need it to come in 1 box... and usually there is a sticker on them saying eg 4gb x 2... When I had my dual channel ram die, they asked me to return both instead of just faulty ram.

Yes I'm well aware of that, he does too most likely as he has two single channel kits in his original basket. I saw his later post saying he would buy a single channel RAM chip (not chips). Just making sure he does use dual channel from the get go, it could well have been just an error with his grammar that confused me.

Funny you didn't mention that Corsairs RMA is based in the Netherlands too ;)

The Z11 case has a side window so it would be nice if the parts inside the case didn't clash colour wise but that's down to him. I look forward to seeing what he settle on :)
