Am I being unreasonable?

Re-reading, that actually seems like the intention?

If that's the case, OP -- that's not on. You split the reimbursed deposit amount 50/50, end of.

EDIT: Sorry, just saw the other updates. :)

I wouldn't have chucked her the extra £100, tbh, if I'd done all the legwork. But hey, at least it's all over now. :)

She's got £990 total. I've walked away with £790, taking the £200 hit in damages. Guts me, but every day's a school day.

It seems totally clear that the returned deposit of £1,780 needs to be split 50/50, so both house mates get £890 each. Anything else is wrong, surely?

Am i being a mug, or have people no comprehension of OPs text at all?

He's not trying to leave her with £100 of a 2k deposit at all.

They EACH paid 990 at the begining.
They are EACH recieving 890 at the end.
Because the damage was mainly OP, flatmate wants the 100 that landlord didn't give back, from OP.
OP was deliberating giving her 100, making HIS 790 and HERS 990.

I've had a few so shoot me down if i got this wrong, but it seems simple to me...

As for answering OP:

You're being unreasonable from an objective view point, you did damage, you pay for damage.
Subjectively, if you put up with crap from her and landlord, it's up to you to make a judgement call on whether she should get her full deposit, putting you out of pocket even more.

(actually think you said you gave it to her somewhere, so just let that be that and move on i guess?)

No you're right it is, this is what threw me off slightly -

Are you considering giving her £890, £990 or £0?
£100, which would essentially negate all of her liability.

And also this from the OP -

Now, my former flatmate is giving me all manner of aggro for taking the money and running rather than reimbursing her desposit.

Makes no difference now, Theophany has clarified so all is good :).

Ah i do see how confusion occured, i just from the get go assumed they'd both been given 890, so when he said take money and run, i also read it as take his an run.

I think you need a campaign of revenge tbh. Get rid of all this pent up emotional frustration you are exhibiting.

Bloody, slaughtered & gutted animals on the doorstep etc

It's late, I've been working my nuts off lately so I'm a bit frazzled but you seem to have got it pretty much bang on pal.

Anyway. Paid her the ton ahead of schedule. She's not a penny out of pocket.

DRAMAAAAA!

e: probably not wise to post that, in hindsight. Enjoy this instead.[img]

Another victory for outsourcing one's morals to the Internet. :)

Tell me about it dude. I've become an intolerable misery of late. :(

Suck it up, put it down to experience and go out and live life to the full.

Never return to this dark place again.

Sambucca, tequila and hookers should help. After all, you have £700 quid to spend ;)

Says the guy on the Internet at 00:02 on a Sunday. :)

What's your point? I'm not the one who claims to be in the right for keeping a hold of your flatmates cash in the op then a few posts later you've buckled given them the cash cos you can't make a decision for yourself. Nice u turn though, you should be in politics

I'm on bottle #2 of Jamesons over the last 24 hour period... :(

I would have thought it was obvious, but then your grasp of the stated facts is tenuous. I shall recap for you, I came asking for advice and then I took said advice - how is that a u-turn in any way, shape or form? I've handed over money I don't even have yet, uberrima fides. :)

So, as you so eloquently asked, what's your point?

:D

Cliffnotes to what happened to with your flat OP?

Ever seen Deliverance?

No

Also ignore her,

If she did nothing yet stand there idly and talk while you did everything she can pay towards it as well.

Also a couple holes does not = 200 quid...

Edit: Read ur previous thread, so goddamn annoying way landlords just do this crapp. Our house has recurring mould problem they've not bothered sorting we've told em multiple times for 6 months. Mould is actually a health risk too.

True, it doesn't, but then I don't really have much of a leg to stand on as I don't have ample proof to dispute the claim, nor do I have the ability to take on another battle right now. Good judgement comes from experience, but experience comes from bad judgement.

Ultimately, I took a moral standpoint and that isn't necessarily the universally fair one.
