Afternoon guys, just got my code for sleeping dogs which is a great looking game. i noticed a flame icon next to my gpu in speedfan while i was playing and it said it was 65C?

Is this normal or too hot?

That's purely because you haven't set up Speedfan, and it's running at default "warning temp" - my advice would be to ditch speedfan and use something better anyway.

If you want to monitor temps - use Open Hardware Monitor.

Or if you want to overclock the card, use MSI Afterburner.

Nice card. I understand they are very quiet. :)

I use MSI Afterburner to monitor my temps, but there are many other programs around. Your temps are consistent with other readings that I've seen on a regular basis with regard to these cards.

Tbh, if you'd said that it was hitting high 70's in game I wouldn't have batted an eyelid.

At stock AMD recommends 90c or lower. Overclocked you want to be 80c or lower. A large overclock 70c or lower.

For the GPU core temperature (the one most software quotes), I wouldn't worry as long as the 7970 is below 80C. Running above 90C is OK for a few seconds/minute sometimes, but I wouldn't be happy running this temperature long term, although technically the card can cope with it. Above 100C the card will start throttling itself to try to bring temperatures down.

That said, your cooler is a lot more efficient than the stock one, so if you are seeing temperatures approaching 80C then something is wrong and you may want to look at your case airflow/dust build up.

If you see a software also quoting VRM temperatures, they will run hotter than the core in my experience and they are rated to run happily at up to 120C, so don't worry if you see these running 70C-95C.

Got exactly the same card mate, Temps match mine so shouldnt worry. Max ive seen it go to was 75c and thats cause i left the fan on 50% on Farcry3 Ultra settings just to see where it would get to and even 75 is alright on these lol. (tested fan at 50% cause the noise at around 65%+ is rather loud :P)

this arrived today, the mesh window of my case has pretty big holes so i added dust filters, the system seems to get quite hot and loud after about 20 mins of gaming.

Is it possible these dust filters along with a noise dampened case are not a good mix and are restricting airflow a lot?

ive got a 600t i changed fans at front and on top to BitFenix Spectre PRO coolings a lot better than the ones supplied

Those temps look fine. I've just upped my clocks to 1200 / 1600 on a ref sapphire card and see temps maxing at 68 to 72.

My 7970 windforce on 40/50% fan speed was in the 75-80c when running farcry3, seems to have got higher since having the latest AMD drivers.

Case ventilation is ok - 3x 200mm fans and 2x 120mm fans (2 intake, 3 exhaust) 1, intake.

Card is stock so i have not touched it as i think the temps are already too high.

Temps are very good mate!! Tho if are still concerned!!! go watercooled, or even better water chiller!! (expensive but great) picture below.

I get 55C tops with my Asus DCU2 and my fan speed is capped to 30%, nice and silent too :D

One thing i dont understand is, why is Torchlight 2 using 100% GPU lol?
