If you could work for any company...

I think a key question is whether it's a matter of working with the abilities and knowledge you actually have or a complete pie in the sky situation in which you can pick whatever you'd like to be doing and have the relevant abilities and knowledge. I'd like to be a researcher at the LHC, but in reality I'd be damn all use there unless they needed someone to make the tea :) Essentially, my ideal would be any job in which I had the ability, knowledge, equipment and opportunity to find out something that was not known before. Not necessarily purely scientific research or anything directly useful - for example, can you imagine finding the Vindolanda tablets and being the first person to read them for 1900 years? Awesome.

I'm going to say.... the prime minister (or any politician).... they get paid for doing well pretty much nothing and they seem to get everything paid for them.... Can't get much more cushy than that for a job.... you can even fall asleep in the commons :)

Realistically though, I'm quite happy being my own boss so apart from having a bigger bank balance I don't see any reason to change my current job :)

I wouldn't mind working for someone like sony/samsung in their product design departments though.

I'd like to work somewhere that there isn't a psychotic manager who wants someone to help but won't give access to the tools necessary.

Funny how many people mention google. Sure they are tad but are any better software companies out there. Heck, MS is probably better.

Contrary to popular belief google doesn't even pay that well relative to the other big players.

My own company of course!

Defintley not Google. Having to work your arse off all hours of the day for a slightly above market rate wage, brightly coloured bean bags and a slide through the office? No thanks!

Anywhere who honestly has an interest in making the most out of their staff tbh.
I'd kill for a placement anywhere that would allow me access to improve my knowledge!

Interesting so many people say Google. They're a nightmare to work for if you value your free time. Yes their offices are amazing, but that's because they expect you to spend 15+ hours a day there.
