H60 Replacement

Wow, Phanteks have just made a customer for life with their support over this. This is what i just received from Phanteks support.

"Hello LtMatt,

We feel very sorry that *********** had sold you a B-grade unit ( no refund or warranty will be granted).

Nevertheless we hope you are willing to send the unit to:

Axpertec BV
Sydneystraat 33-35
3047 BP Rotterdam
The Netherlands

After we have received the unit, we will send you a brand new unit with full warranty. For all the troubles you have been through, we shall add a third free fan in the package.

Hope to have you informed sufficiently, and again sorry for the bad experience with our product.

Best,
Yun"

Phanteks contacted me via trust off of their own back and offered help. Very impressed with that for customer service and will happily recommend Phanteks products to many people from now on. :)

Phanteks strikes again! :D

In this case the party who sold it to you is the one responsible, not Phanteks. They had nothing to do with your problem. But because it has their name on it they are going above and beyond to make you happy.

Not many companies out there do that.

Thank You Phanteks for being so good to us your customers!!

Spectacular result!
I'm tempted to go Phanteks just to support a great company.
Wonder if I should test Alpenfohn regarding the clicky 140mm fan I have? :D

Well they've made a customer in me that's for sure. The place i got it from will never see my business again. I gave a good clue to who they are in my earlier post should anyone else wish to avoid them as well. Damn cowboys.

Petey come and join me with a phanteks. With our (well when you get a new 7950 :p) radeons and custom gpu coolers we will need to discuss tactics to make sure the Phanteks and our Accelero/Peter work side by side to keep those vrm temps in check lol.

I did notice higher vrm temps on my accelero when i had the phanteks exhausting out the back, although as we know my cooler was dodgy.

EDIT

Holy smokes petey you need 1.375 for 4.5ghz?

Haha, if and when I grab another 79xx, my cooling solution won't care about what's cooling the cpu since it ejects the heat straight out of the side ;)

I don't think my cpu NEEDS 1.376v, it's just that I can't be arsed to overclock it properly :D I just set the multiplier to 45 and let it do it's thing.

Wait, you're retiring from the after market cooling gpu scene? Noooooooo. We need experienced heads when times are tough and vrm temps rise in the summer time. :D

What cooler will you be getting?

You could probably do 4.6-4.8ghz at that voltage. Bet you could trim a bit off that if you wanted.

No retirement mate, I'm on about the Peter and the way I had it set up :)

I really do need to read up on how to OC my cpu properly tbh... 'Tis a bit shameful :o

I'm not as bad as doyll though :p

As yes my bad i forgot you had more fans than elvis in your setup. :p

Yep that's not an option for me as it needs to look nice when i look through the side window. Still im open to new ideas and suggestions when it comes to fiddling. :D

'More fans than elvis' haha! :D I only had 4 on the gpu cooler, one on the K2 and 4 in the case after putting it on a diet and it looked awesome to me at least ;)
Don't make me start spamming pics again...

No idea what you can do with the Accelero, as it's pretty much a self-contained unit.
The Peter is just a big 'ol heatsink and a fan bracket that asks YOU what you feel like doing :D

Post some pics up, i thought it did look pretty cool actually and im convinced that would help drop my temps a lot. However i don't ever think i could make it work or look acceptable in my setup.

I really like the look of the Accelero, its convinced me to do it again whenever i get a new gpu. However the vrm still needs work or they need to add better heatsinks. Also make some more G1 god dammit.

The peter is a big old lump thats for sure, but as long as it does the job thats all that matters i guess. Each to their own, but if i had my time again i still think id go for the accelero.

LtMatt,
You might get lucky and get the new fans they haven't yet released to retailers to LtMatt.

Phanteks PH-F140TS . 1200rpm . 1.21mm H2O . 78.1CFM . 19.0dBA . 1.8watt
Phanteks PH-F140xx. . 1300rpm . x.xxmm H2O . 88.6CFM . 19.6dBA . 2.8watt The New One
Thermalright TY-140. . 1300rpm . 1.89mm H2O . 73.6CFM . 21.0dBA . 2.4watt
Thermalright TY-143. . 2500rpm . . . . . . . . . . 130.0CFM . . 45dBA . 7.2watt
(TY-140 out performs F140TS so take the specs with a grain of salt or two, but higher wattage indicates it probably works harder/more airflow)
Mount your fans as low as possible, expecially front fan. This helps airflow under cooler.

I made a box under the cooler between bottom fins and mobo with cut-outs where the air needs to be blowing. Dropped my NB by 5c.

I've been running TY-140 and TY-143 fans on both case and cooler because their PWM control of rpm works well and my cooler was one of the early ones without the PWM adapter. Had system setup by the time I got it. Did try the Phanteks fans and their performance was almost identical. Just liked the way rpm balances with PWM on case and cooler instead of mixing adapter and PWM. System idles mid 20's @ 660rpm and running all cores 100% it's mid to high 40's @ 950-1000rpm. TC14PE is a heat eating monster. When I had it venting out top of case and had front door open I could unplug ALL fans and run 100% never going over 70c. Took 30 minutes to stabilize at 70c but never went any higher. That said the cooler had the fans still on it and a duct from cooler to top of case.. it's own little chimney.. so with all intakes bottom and lower half of front it was creating it's own airflow.. slow but steady. ;)

I have a new Silver Arrow SB-E Extreme (eat your heart our Petey!) I was given as a late Xmas present. Need to put it on and see what it does. I expect very similar results. My only regret with TC14PE is it's red and not black!.. but the TY-143 fans look good on it. ;)

I have several old Thermalright coolers too. Cogage Arrow, original Ultra 120.. the 4 pipe one, HR-02. None of the original fan though.. but they don't have 1366 mounts. Searched high and low and found one. In the process I noticed others trying to find new mounts too. So contacted Thermalright. As we speak they are being shipped so older owners can use their great coolers on new CPU's. Said they will send me some soon too.

Thanks doyll, good luck with the cpu overclocking. :D

The stuff they are kindly going to send me is as follows

1 x PH-TC14PE_BL
1 x PH-F140TS_BL
1 x PWM adaptor

Thanks. I'll need it. Never done it alone before.

I don't know what the new fan model number is. The review I liked above says the fans had PH-F120 on the label.. And obviously they are not 120's.

The Accelero is great, especially given that it takes up way less space than the Peter. Core temps are about the same and you don't have to add your own fans.
The Peter really comes into it's own when you get creative and it allows room for bigger/better heatsinks as you know.

I just wanted to do something different I guess and I certainly wouldn't recommend it to everyone. The main reason I didn't choose the Accelero is due to reports of slightly poor VRM cooling, which was my biggest reason for wanting to ditch the stock Sapphire Dual-X.

My setup can more often than not require modding the side panel. I cut a 230mm hole in the shinobi, which worked well. Then I got the 500R and it's side mesh worked fine, although I had big plans for a big acrylic window with an acrylic side duct which would've been one of a kind afaik and would've effectively separated the case into two isolated cooling zones. Functional and pretty :D Still might do it one day...

Pic spam incoming as requested! (any excuse :o) Shinobi and 500R.
Hard to take pics that do it justice. This is definitely not for the ALC crowd ;)

Forgot. It's not 4 case fans, it's 6, but I don't count the corsair fans coz they're **** :D

Got the VRM1 temps down another 3-5°C after making this chart by switching from tape and hotglue to Alpenfohn thermal glue with the huge VRM heatsink.

I ain't mad at cha :D It wouldn't have worked in the shinobi with a side panel on anyhow. Besides, you'll never use those fans at over TY-140 speeds anyway :p

Either way, you helped me choose a great cooler in the K2, so it's all good baby :)
Learned much since I have...

Yeah it does look good and it definitely goes with the look of your case. That just won't fly in mine though. I will have some decisions to make once i get the phantek. I need to think how im going to exhaust the two heat zones on the accelero. One being the core which is near the rear and one being the vrm which is near the pci-e cables.

The vrm will be the main problem as the phantek cooler will be right in the way.

Petey, you have a great system and have done it proud. So how does the side fan exhaust? Isn't there a side window over them?

I wouldn't worry about the core. Let the Accelero heatsink deal with that.
The VRM bit may be tricky if you want to keep it looking clean. Also, the arctic vrm heatsinks are 90° the wrong way for optimal channeling to the side if you get me?

Thanks mate! Sadly though, I had a great system. GPU done died on me. Nothing to do with these mods though.
The fans happily exhausted through the large mesh on the 500R side panel. Maybe at the expense of a few degrees compared to no panel.

Yeah not much i can do tbh. Use better heatsinks and use the new G1 whenever that arrives.
