Council tax evasion.

If it's not lawful it should be. I've paid my council tax for years and am happy to do so. I'm not sure what they think they're fighting against.

do you think you get good value for money? i dont. my council tax is almost 3 months mortgage. its not like we have a police presence, decent roads etc in my village. it just seems a scam to rip everyone off.

Yeah, it's about £40 a month shared with my landlady. The bins and recycling are taken on time, the roads are kept gritted, they came and removed an old fridge for me since I don't have a car.

Just seems like one of those idiots who is adamant they 'know their rights' through his (probably) selective interpretation of the law.

I pay about £130 a month in council tax and it gets divided up amongst the various public services I use and tbh I don't mind it, yes its a fair bit of cash but these things have to be paid for. I bet the guy being an idiot in that video uses all the services provided by his council and that other peoples council tax are paying for.

The vast majority of your council tax goes towards paying for 'social housing'. Rubbish Collection, for example, only works out at about a £1 a week of it.

Previous life I worked in litigation department for a large building society. We would get many of these idiots who were in arrears writing to us with freeman of the land ******** and signing letters with a wax seal and fingerprints attempting to counter sue for 6 million.

Always went to court, always ended up ****ing off the judge with their ******** and we always got a court order to repossess the property.

They are morons.

We all don't like paying council tax. Who dosn't? I certainly dont like paying council tax.

But you goota pay it weather you like it or not.

You should be able to opt out,

But if you do that means you opt out of being able to use the council for anything, or any council ran/subsidised services, no bin collection, no police, no fire, etc..

But council tax doesn't just pay for things you use. It also pays for things like carers and social housing.

Doesn't work in practice since there are shared services that you use passively as soon as you walk out of your front door - gritting, litter collection, pest control, lighting etc.

You could argue that you can opt out of certan services and pay less but not that you can opt out all together.

How would that work in terms of using roads, paths and street lighting :D

You'll not get away with not paying Council Tax. They'll catch up with you in the end by way of attachment of earnings.

BBC Tax on the other hand...

I don't mind paying Council tax for the services etc however since recently it's been discovered that my local council is squandering this income in wasteful ways I am sympathetic to the contents of the video.

£1 million has been taken from frontline services in my city to create a "fairness commission" because some hairy fairy idiot on the council thinks that because we have areas where all the scumbags live and areas where decent folk live, the city isn't fair.

The fact is decent people move to decent areas to get away from the scumbags.

living in a renovated nursing home (6 flats) each paying out £115 (give or take)
Roads are still poor as hell (pot holes etc)
Council comes fortnightly to collect bins/recycle

They could be more fair with prices (wage percentage or something)
