I want to buy 2 new monitors for my home setup but don't really want to pay for 2 X 27" 2560X1440 monitors, I have been doing some reading and a few people say that the 27" 1080p monitors do not look good close up when sat at a desk.

Is this true?

Should I just get 2 X 27" 1080p monitors or 2 X 24" 1080p monitors?

Cheers

You be much better off going for the 1440p ones...

The extra desktop space it they give is well worth paying the extra for..

Yeah they're quite bad. Had a 27" 1080p and upgraded to 1440p - will never go back, looks awful.

Admittedly, blu rays/tv shows there is no difference as they can't achieve that resolution anyway (bar some upscaling options on some high def discs) but the difference up close when browsing or surfing the net and gaming is staggering.

1080p on a 27" looks fine to me and I use a Dell 2560x1440 as my main display. Everything just seems a little big but it still looks ok.

I totally disagree with it looking bad. In fact i'll be buying another 27" 1080p monitor pretty soon.

I have an eye disease, so 27" @ 1080p helps me a lot :), while keeping the native res. I don't think my gtx580 could drive 1440p. Also the text would look too small, without messing with the desktop settings.

yes, 1080p looks blurry at 27". Viewable, but not sharp.

Just got a Dell 2713HM and running it at 1080p via DVI while waiting for my minidisplay-displayport to arrive in the post to enable 2560x1440 - hope the postman comes soon!

Definitely get a 2560x1440 if you can.

That's because you are running a non native res. A 1080p 27" looks considerably better than a 2713 at 1080p.

OP, if you can afford 1440p @ 27" and have the graphics card oomph to drive them then its a no brainer, get them. If you cannot afford 27" 1440p then 27" 1080p are absolutely fine. Lot of rubbish posted on here, mostly by folks who have gone from 1080p to 1440p and then decide that 27" 1080p is suddenly rubbish, its not its fine, trust me I have one. :D
