What temperature should a house be?

My house is set to 18C but most people find this too cold so I have to crank it up when friends and parents are visiting. I end up sitting there in shorts and t shirt! Had my parents up to stay for the last few days and they were moaning it was cold so had to turn it up, when I went back to theirs for Christmas their house was like the tropics! Far too hot! I do tend to run very warm though.

I like it nice and cool - 16 deg or so. I do lots of exercise and I think it fires up my metabolic rate so I am like the walking furnace at all times - Also means I can stuff my face without fear of getting fat -Bonus! :D

I think thats what makes me run hot. Before I get home from work I always stop in the gym which makes me warm for the rest of the evening!

No I'm not trying to be nasty about it or not take your suggestions but so far the only suggestions have been pay more money which I have covered. Infact, I think the post about the device thing they've got showing the boiler temperature was spot on and that older people feel the temperature changes less - I genuinely didn't know about the boiler thing and it may really be the case that the device my parents have I'd connected to this somehow as it always shows the same temperature despite what the outside temperature is, and that my mother doesn't feel the cold as easily as I do.

So I apologise if I am coming across as not caring what you say - trust me that's not the case :D

Just wondering what the ideal temperature is supposed to be - and on that note, the post about the card that came through the door with the temperatures on was handy. I think I may have been a bit touchy with the temperature this morning considering I was up at half six when the heating was only just coming to life.

Usually around 19/19.5 in the week. If I'm in at the weekend it'll knock it up to 20/21. Depends what I'm doing, if I'm sat around then I'll probably get chilly so will stick a jumper on.

It's nice to feel lovely and toasty in your home but having the heating on for an extra 2 hours every day just for the sake of 3 degrees or so isn't worth it to me.

As on that note I apologise if I've come across as rude to you etc but personal circumstances dictate what I can afford and my mam actually says she doesn't want more money off me. I will gladly pay for things that I should and I am moving out soon so I understand the type of expenses that come with a house.

I have received the answers I was seeking so I would like to just let this thread die please.

Usually have mine set to 19-20c which makes it nice and comfy, i have my thermostat on constant during the day and it comes on and off when the temp drops below 19c.

At night i turn it to auto and it comes on about 7am-10am so gets the house nice and warm when i wake up.

Open the windows and walk around in shorts and tshirt and sunglasses, when they ask wtf, just say its boiling and act all surprised. :D

They'd have a fit lmao, I don't think I've ever said I'm boiling. I think to add to it all I'm a naturally cold person because even at my partners parents house I will be walking round in a hoody etc and they'll be saying its boiling.

You don't need to apologise to people online,
my post probably came over far more accusatory and judgmental than intended, obviously you know your circumstances best.

I just wanted to provide an outside perspective based upon what i'd read.

Usually about 18 although before bed we usually put it down to about 12 as once your snuggled up in your duvet you don't need it on.

If I'm cold I generally just put a jumper on.
