French driver trapped for an hour in speeding 125mph car with no brakes

He could have been pro and reached to the fuse box under the steering wheel and pull the fuel pump fuse. But knowing the french his car most likely has all the fuses under the bonnet.

Also when the car ran out of petrol why would you bin the car in a ditch?

Because he had no brakes and was likely still travelling at a decent pace?

Yeah you can put it into neutral and different gears.

Not always, on the new BMW autos the gear selector is just a switch and you can't change into neutral while you're moving, or change down a gear when the revs are too high.

he should have just turned the key back one click, would still have had PAS and brake assist but would have just coasted to a stop.

I'm always sceptical of these "driver couldn't stop his car" stories especially the "my cruise control got stuck on" ones as there are about 5 different ways of stopping a car which are all highly reliable and independant of each other.

The key point of this story is that is was modified fro disabled used. Now im not sure what the typical useage profile of a disabled driver is but im pretty sure converted cars do not have clutch pedals and gearsticks, they also do not have the OEM FMEA on the system so once who ever modified it has done there work there is a range of failure modes.

Oh, you're *that* driver. The one who only pulls over once he's slowed you down to whatever speed *he* feels everyone should be going at...

You can go as fast as you want, I certainly don't hang around.

It's pretty logical to assume if I'm overtaking I'm not going to slam on my brakes, pull in to allow someone going 125mph to pass. I'll move over as quickly as my manoeuvre has been completed.

A Renault scenic killed itself outside my house having gotten a mind of its own. Was a diesel, and the key (card) was in the drivers hand when he pulled up and dived out, engine screaming and smoke everywhere. Only chance of shutting it down I could figure was to pull the battery (kill the diesel pump) but the engine was really screaming at that point so I left it alone - I might have pulled something off and gotten blamed for engine death.

As it happened the thing melted the big end (I assume) because it ground to a horrible, scorching hot death.

French Cars. If you don't kill you they'll kill themselves at some point. Had enough Citroens to know that :(

This made me chuckle, I'm not ashamed to admit.

Not really, the Police do this all the time, it's called "box and stop" where a few vehicles cover all sides of the vehicle and force it to stop.

Or dont stop it, escort it along at 200 km/h for 200 km, run out of petrol, then instead of just coasting to a stop it swerves into a ditch.

Lolfrench :)

Sounds like it was ingesting and burning its own oil rather than diesel so pulling the fuel pump fuse wouldn't do anything anyway.

Yeah thats what I meant.

Seems to make a lot more sense than just escorting it for an HOUR hoping he doesnt hit some innocent driver causing even more damage.

This sounds like one of those hoaxes that goes viral and turns out to be an advert for Renault. Look everyone, a Renault that can reach 125mph!
