Floppy fish! very good description! :D

Yep,

I've had it for about 10 years. I've had an internal loop recorder in my chest for the past 4 years to check they're not dangerous.

Every 6 weeks or so, I get a couple of really bad evenings back to back. Every other beat is really uncomfortable.

Although I've been told they're harmless, rationality goes out the window when I'm experiencing them, and I go in to full blown panic mode :(.

I've been diagnosed with PVC's, PAC's, PSVT and occasional NSVT :(.

I'm part of a help group on Facebook if anyone needs to share stories about it. It helped me a lot to know I wasn't alone with my symptoms.

I've got my bloods to come as well, but I doubt I'll see anything come back abnormal.

I too go into spaz mode when they get bad, so when they aren't I try to just think of them as gone so as not to worry them back into my life.

My wife's heart goes mad whens she's pregnant.

She's been for all sorts of scams, I've watched it on a heart beat machine and every 3rd beat it has a pause then the forth beat is one big one. She had that for 6 months she said it was horrible

I too have ectopic beats and they were happening when I was having another ECG sat with the head specialist of a cardiology unit. I imagined that he was going to tell me that I was needing a transplant or something but my goodness after the tests he did he simply downplayed them has having no real importance. This was in 2010 so I'm just about getting to appreciate that maybe my heart isn't about to explode now.

They seem to be worse at times of emotional stress etc.

LOL.. thats what I call it when mine kicks off badly. Unfortunately it goes with the territory. Had a big heart attack nigh on 15 years back, the full monty with tipple bypass and days in ICU because my heart decided it didn't want to pump any more. They kept me going with something called a balloon pump.

Then another in Sept, last year. Not a big one like the first but enough to frighten me to death again. But it has left me with a damaged valve.

When I first started getting the ectopics it scared me to death, but I've been having them for so long I'm now sort of used to them unless they get really bad, which isn't too often thankfully.

Damn, you've been through some difficult times. 2 heart attacks! I don't worry about my health too much but heart attacks scare me. Is it painful or do you not really know what's happened till you wake up in hospital?

I have the same, perfectly normal (for me anyway) I went to the docs, who referred me to the consultants where I had a 24 hour ECG (wearble with a recorder) and ultrasound scans of my heart (which was very cool). turns out I have an irregular heatbeat Venticular Ectopic Beats.

Thank you.
First one was very painful and knocked me off my feet. Oddly the pain wasn't centred in my chest as much as my left arm. Felt like it was being crushed. First one was pretty severe, I had my heart attack Tuesday morning and emergency bypass Thursday morning, with an angioplasti in between.

Second one was totally different, I simply had a tightness/heaviness in my chest and lots of ectopics.

I've recently been told I also have this after an episode last year where my heart went into overdrive. It was very scary, I ended up going to A&E, at which point it had started to slow down. Oddly they tried to blame it on my protein supplements, it was only when I saw my GP that she said it was ectopic.

I do believe mine are, as others have said, related to stress. What I found difficult was pulling myself out of the mental state of worrying about it. It isn't simply as easy as forgetting about it.

They have all sorts of causes. Most people don't even notice them and untill we come out and do a 12 lead do they actually know they have something going on.

Just avoid Caffine drinks and such like :)

Unless you get any actual noticable pain/discomfort I don't think you even need to worry about it. Just avoid Caffine drinks and such like :)

Caffeine definitely aggravates mine, as does alcohol. It's quite odd, in that it's not while I'm drinking it, it normally takes a few hours before it becomes more unsettled. I suppose it takes while to get into the system. (plus I get them all the time anyway, so I suppose I just notice they get worse or more frquent)

I tend to avoid anything with caffeine in it, tea, coffee, fizzy drinks. I do have a drink now and again, but my beer monster days are far behind me now.

Yes and stress is a biggy, mine gets orders of magnitude worse if I'm stressing over something.

Irresponsible words...

And you know this because of your years of experience as a cardiologist? There is a no medical threads rule for a reason.

I have them all the time. Some of you may remember last year I had a ventricular tachycardia and an ICD fitted.

My heart is in rhythm but I still get ectopics. Although my doc calls them either premature ventricular contractions or premature atrial contractions. I can tell the difference as one feels like a heavy beat or flipping and another feels like i'm being stabbed in the chest.

They don't bother me other than worrying they are going to kick off a sustained arryhthmia.

Ignoring what West has typed. We were only sharing our experiences with the topic in question, not giving out advice.
