payg with no monthly charge

Is there a sim card available for casual use that you do not have to top up monthly or where the credit runs out.
I want to get an iphone or android to take on holiday to use for texts, internet with wifi, but with internet use so i can use sat nav on the odd occasion.
I have been told Virgin used to do one similar but no longer do them

What do you mean credit doesn't runs out? That is how PAYG cards work.

If you want to be able to use now and pay later, you need a contract sim.

If you want to avoid the hassle of topping up, then why not just attach your credit card to your payg account.

As for roaming abroad, I suggest you look into it properly before having auto top ups.

What I meant was a card that any of the top up you have left does not expire if you don't use it all in a certain time.
I used to have a vodafone payg card that you had to make a call during 90 days or you lost any unused money left on the card and the phone number
I think these are still available but I don't know if you can use them with an iphone for text and internet use
 
Well they all eventually expire as they have to recycle unused numbers.

Why would you be using internet on a pay-as-you-go basis? Isn't that very expensive?

You can't really be prohibited from using a SIM in a particular phone either.

T-Mobile state as long as you make a "connection action" every 180 days you are fine.

What you may have heard about was a pay monthly tariff called the "Virgin Plan" that had no monthly line rental, but all calls, texts, etc. were paid for. I was on that plan back in 1999, so don't expect anything like that to be around now.

Similar to Three's Sim Zero plan then which has been dropped recently.
 
I use a T- mobile PAYG sim, credit doesn't run out and I give it a text once a month to keep the number active.

Yes that sound like the one that was mentioned
I wanted the internet use for the odd occasion that I would use it out of wifi range to use sat nav in the phone and possibly look something up on the internet quickly
I dont know anything about the different sim cards but in the ads they say the sim is for text and data so are this sort alright for internet/sat nav use and texts

I have got a netbook that I take away with me and use just in wifi range, but also have an internet dongle to connect to the uk internet other times, but I liked the idea of an iphone instead because of its small size, texts, camera etc

I have looked at reviews and it seems ok for my purpose, I am still searching but does anyone know if there any other similar phones and deals where the phone has a better camera and faster processor
 
Ovivo

No top required ever..!
Every month you get 100 mins 400 texts 400MB internet and Free ovivo to ovivo calls/text.

My Mrs use them and she says its good. Shes been using Ovivo for the last 6 months and not once she has topped up. The only thing that she paid was for the sim when first placed the order.

Was with Ovivo for a month only when I was between contracts. Service seemed fine and they were quick to deal with number porting; you just get weekly email shots from them. Heard they might be warming up for a new campaign in the spring where they push ads to your phone browser but I wouldn't be surprised if there was a way of avoiding it.

Worth trying for a bit I'd say, if the ads get annoying you can always move and won't have lost anything.
 
I see there is another company called giffgaff who do a similar service, I wouldnt be suprised about ads, they must make their money from somewhere other than your initial payment

Yea thats the down side about it. But with the Mrs, she don't use internet on her phone. so she has disabled internet on her phone. So she dosn't get any Ads from Ovivo.

I've just started with giff gaff, what I really like is unlike a lot of the monthly contracts with giff gaff it really is a per month basis and the £10/£12 deals are very good.
 
Ovio looks a pretty good alternative, though I think Giff Gaff wins on simplicity.

Still struggling to understand what the deal is with Ovio. Do I read it correctly, you pay £15 for the sim and then as long as you have money in the account you get 100 mins 400 texts 400MB internet every month regardless?, that does seem a pretty good deal!
 
Even if you don't have any money in your account you still receive your monthly allowance.

Just asked mrs and she has no credit on her account. But she still getting her allowance every month.

I almost don't get it - sounds a no brainer if you are a fairly lite user. I need to use mine a bit more on giff gaff but wow!

** just read the ads bit - that would put me off but for users not really worried about that good deal
