*** The Official BlackBerry Z10 & Q10 Thread ***

I wanted to give this a fair shake in store but (at least in the O2 stores) they have them locked in that dumb demo mode. :(

Didnt you ask them to take it off the demo mode??. I went to my local o2 shop and they had them on the silly retail demo mode and asked the guy if i could actually play with one, he put in a code and unlocked it for me from the demo mode and had a good play with it.

They're always so busy and I just want to have a play.

Next time go in there and ask them that your interested in the Z10 and if they can let you have a proper play rather than having to use the demo mode. Am sure they will do it if you ask nicely.

Just as an FYI

I installed a couple of android apps via side loading last night. Followed the method on crackberry and I now have both Flipboard and google maps / navigation working on my Z10. Flipboard works flawlessly, really smooth running in emulation. Google maps i only tried to see if it runs.

Tried Spotify but that was a no go. Having said that I know the official Spotify app is coming in a month or so.

IMO the white looks better than the black. It has a presence about it which i don't think the black does.

Still really enjoying the phone

Had a play with one of the Z10 dev alpha's yesterday, just thought I'd stick it in here ;)

No ones interested in the z10 dev alpha as its out now for public consumption:p

Most people including me are interested in the Q10 dev alpha, which is out for dev's now. Seeing a few pics of the Q10 dev alpha, which is the physical keyboard version of BB10, it looks pretty nice compared to what the Q10 will look like...looks very industrial and tough looking.

Anyhow got my black Z10 this morning, ordered it through Orange on a PAYG line, cost me £460 all in so was pretty cheap BUT only issue is that its locked to Orange only so cant use my Tmo sim card :( So sadly it has to go back but in the meantime, ill get to play with it as Orange said it will take a few days before i get the bag to send it back in. Suppose i could keep it and wait till the unlock codes are available but no one really knows when the codes will be available to unlock the phone to other networks.

Really sucks as i was pretty excited but disappointment ensued when i put my tmo sim :(.

I saw some preview specs and pics of a Q10 yesterday, sadly I'm not allowed to disclose anything :c I might get told off! It looks to be a decent hybrid handset though - What I'm waiting for is a value version of a BB10 handset, blackberry have always thrived on being able to sell handsets cheap and effectively. The only true BB10 models available now will be 2 top end flagships, namely Z10 and Q10

Yes i heard that at the moment only the Z10 and Q10 will be sold and perhaps next year or later this year, they will be looking at the budget range of BB10 devices.

It will be interesting to see what they come up with regarding the budget BB10 devices. At the moment, i suppose they arent so bothered about the budget handsets as they are still supporting the OS 7 and 7.1 handsets but i would imagine that at some point they will put them to pasture.

The funny thing is that before i had a play with the Z10, i was dead set on getting the Q10 but having a good play with a Z10 for the past few weeks since release, i have to say im not that interested in the Q10 anymore as the Z10 keyboard is immense.

Really sorry to hear that didn't work for you, would have thought they would have come from the same batch so odd that my Tmo sim works and yours doesn't.

Yep it sucks that it didnt work, i did call up Orange and even they said it should work as we are all part of the same network.

Anyhow just have to wait for them to send me the bag to send it back to them and they will refund me the money back.

Was all excited too when i got it this morning :(.

Oh well the search for a black z10 sim free continues:p

Just to let people who have the device know, Super Hexagon is now available in the app world. Excellent game!

Work are finally sending through my 4G sim so i'll post some thoughts on if this effects the battery life when it arrives

I had a little play on a Z10, wasn't really impressed. The menu animation is poor compared to Android / Apple. They made such a big deal over swiping from left-right to access Messages, Call Log etc; yet when your in an application this feature doesn't work?

Yes it does (I think). Haven't actually got the phone but I believe you swipe up form the bottom bezel then left/right while in an app.

4G will hammer the battery from what i have been reading around but thats nothing unusual as other 4G/LTE handsets out there suffer from poor battery life as well.

Yes it does work, you just have to know how to do it. If you swipe up from the bezel then it will bring you out into the main screen and minimise the app that you are in. Then you can swipe left or right to your hearts content.

As for the poor menu animation?? i find it pretty smooth and flawless compared to Android and Apple, ive found with Android especially that the menu animations tend to slow down if you have too many apps running, same with apple as well. I have a Z10 myself but am sending it back as it wont work with my sim card. But from what i have been reading is that you can have up to 8 apps open and the Z10 still seems to be pretty smooth animation wise. I wont know myself until i get hold of a sim free Z10 and at the moment they are like gold dust:p.

I have noticed the UI isn't quite as fluid as the latest versions of Android with the 'project butter' improvements. I'd probably say it's comparable to older versions of Android.

Have you used an iPhone 5? You can't slow that down. I'd bet my life that it's smoother than the Z10 - unless the Z10 is a lot smoother than it looks in videos. It does look a bit juddery, even on the advert!

I'm pretty confident saying the Nexus 4 zips along without issue as well. The S3 (which I know you have) isn't quite as good in that area, but I doubt the Z10 is much better than that either.

Anyway, GSMArena review here: http://www.gsmarena.com/blackberry_z10-review-886.php

The Samsung S3/Nexus 7 and iPhone 5 are more fluid than the Z10. I was annoyed that there is no Home/Back button and you have to keep swiping. Would take some time to get used to, even if your a BB user imo.
