I got a quote for 625 for my mot. Shall i take it elsewhere for a second opinion

I thought MOT's were a set price... I paid something like £54.50
There is a maximum charge - which is what it appears you pay - but garages are free to charge whatever rate they want provided it doesn't exceed the maximum.
Just booked mine in tonight for £23
Edit: if it needs anything is yet to be seen though.

Was just an MOT, nothing to be done. Took it to the local village garage who isn't cheap but he's a nice bloke so I let it be - £57.50 IIRC.
£625? Given the wealth of information you've provided, I can safely conclude that that's a perfectly reasonable price for the work being carried out on your car.
Or you're being completely shafted, what do I know? How is anyone meant to know if that's reasonable
If that's just for the MOT, you're definitely being ripped off a wee bit
Not only is he not cheap, he is breaking the law. He should not charge more than £54.85.

I took mine to a main dealer aiming to get simple stuff like brakes sorted if needed on the same day only to be told that they would have had to order them in anyway. Won't be making that mistake next time!
