Been getting constantly cold called by these scammers, no point getting their phone numbers as i was able to trick one into giving me it.

Called the Police but they are not in the least bit interested. Just got told

" yes we dont need the number, we got plenty, there nothing we can do as they are from abroad (India)"

must have disturbed her doughnut break, shocking attitude tbh.

Granted it's offshore fraud, but shouldn't our gov't and/or telcos as a whole do something about it? Blacklist all known numbers across all UK phone networks and keep amending the list as the number of scammers grow? It sounds easy enough to me - just need, say, a few dozen complaints complaining about a certain telephone number then it gets perma'd.

Then they just withold their numbers when dialling ;)
There sod all that can be done tbh

My mum loves these calls, winds them up something crazy while googling likely sounding techy phrases on her netbook (she knows practically nothing about computers). They get quite abusive when they realise they are being played.

Police don't do half of what they're supposed to. They refuse to record actual crimes in case it damages their statistics. They've got an undeserved sense of superiority. Pretty much sums it up.

Surely withhold numbers could be improved such that it doesn't withhold the number till it gets to the penultimate node?
This means the phone company could actually block the spam and the customer may be able to find where the spam is coming from.

I just tell them I have a Mac, then they feel sorry for me and hang up.

I play along with their game, "Oh no! Jeez, i'm glad you rung if i have a virus... I would never have known! What shall i do?"

After 15 to 20 minutes of them desperately trying to get me to click the start button, or Win+R to run a command, or restart my pc and try again, i eventually ask if using Linux might have anything to do with it... :D They then swear at me and hang up :)

I actually work for a telecommunications company so i know a bit about how it works. The scammers dont even bother to hide their numbers because they are using a temporary generated numbers (telephony system) which could be hired for pennies over there. The Police would need to work with across international agencies just to get juristrication and "track" to source however it not considered worth the effort because it merely "petty" crime and it hard but it is still possible.

But surely they cant keep ignoring this because how often do you still hear OAP and other gulliable victims part with 100 of pounds. Not to mention how dangerouse Cyber crime is (keyloggers, or worse)

but of course as quoted below :D

Of course they aren't, it's nothing to do with them.
