Do you still eat round the table in your house?

I remember I went to an [ex] gf's house years ago I was amazed that the family didn't eat at the table. They all sat on the sofa watching TV and had dinners on trays. They did this every meal. It's so chavvy.

Me and my wife don't eat at the table, we like our own space and eat whenever we want but occasionally we'll eat together. I think that if you're a couple, eating at the same time every evening can be a chore but if you have a family it's more necessary to get everyone together rather than let the kids eat in their rooms at their PCs or whatever.

How do things work in your home?

Always around the table. Nice to have the family together and the kids not fighting at least once a day.

most days round the table. rest of the time when its just me and the kids as the wifes working it tends to be a case of not bothering

It's becoming quite expensive to have a dining room - house prices and whatnot. Thing of the past IMO - although there's no argument against the value of eating together, it's getting less practical.

My one bed flat does not have the space for a table, so its meals on laps, when visitors come, we sometimes sit on the floor and use the coffee table, but everyone is happy to either sit on the sofa and eat food, or myself as the hostess, I sit on the floor and eat food as there just isn't enough room for a table or anything bigger than a 2 seater sofa. :)

When i'm at my parents we all sit down at the table and eat together, but then they have a big enough house! :D

At home growing up we always sat at the table, we even had two tables! One for weekday meals and then the larger dining room for sunday / family get togethers.

It a good way to bring everyone together so they can just talk for a bit and even in my flatshare now we all get together for dinner most nights.

Also saves money as you can split meal costs and you aren't using the oven multiple times.

I used to hate eating at the table when I was a child. Having to come home early from playing football, stop playing computer games/talking to my friends on msn was really annoying. As I got older now I started to love it and still do. There's nothing good on TV so would much rather chat to other people.

Looking back now if I hadn't have gone downstairs to eat I wouldn't have really seen my mum, which would have been shocking, given how much she did for me.

My girlfriend and I always eat at the table now when together, with the TV off. Having it on to me says the person/people you're with aren't interesting enough.

When I was young my parents and I ate every meal at the table, even if we were eating by ourselves. I can't remember one single time in the 22 years I lived at home that we didn't eat at the table.

It's kind of ingrained in me to do the same with my family. Occasionally we'll eat in front of the TV but that's a rarity, maybe once every three months or so. My daughter is nearly 4 now and finds it odd if we don't sit at the dining table together :)

I live with my Uncle in a flat, so we don't have a dining table. If we did, I'd certainly eat at it for every meal. Dunno if it's a myth, but the food goes down better and it definitely promotes communication.

At my Nan's, we always eat the the table. It's frowned upon if I try to eat on the sofa.

We eat off our knees, but not in front of the telly. We would eat at the table, but our dining room is very big and takes a lot to heat it up. In summer we will.

Although, when it is just me and my girlfriend, doesn't really matter.

Me and the GF eat at the table most days, if its late and we really cba then we eat in the lounge but not often.

When I lived with my parents then it was always around the table, one time of the day the family is together.

I was amazed though when talking to a guy at work about moving into my own place and I mentioned the dining room table his response was "Dining room table? do you not have knees?" Couldn't imagine eating every meal on my knees.
