Hello there,

The system I have: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=BU-136-OE

I wrote a post the other day about my Mobo not booting up.... I appears I forgot to add the ATX cables for the cpu :P :P :P

Anyways, I got it working yesterday and set about gaming, after 11pm the PC did a total shutdown. It was like someone pulled the plug on the thing.
After a little research I've found out it was the temp monitor kicking in.

So After unscrewing and rescrewing the heatsync, I'm still finding the CPU very hot.

Idle the machine is 17c ( or some what HWInfo64 & the "easytune" that came with the MoBo. ) But the cores are idle at 1397.5 MHZ.
When I game the auto boost kicks in (4.40GHZ ) and I the temps get crazy from there 80c underload, from my research the chip is only meant to take 70c before it shuts down..
This as you imagine has got me VERY worried. If your gonna check out the bundle please be aware what you see in the picture for a heatsync is not the one I got. The details are in the web page about which one I've got.

Now is that normal? ... my old Q6600 Quad core under load was 40-50c and idled around 15-20c.

Secondly what else can I do to ensure it never reaches 80c again.

Many thanks!

EDIT: Just been stress testing the cores, max I could get out was 60c. Now when I'm playing BF3 then I get 80c + ..... I'm so confused atm!

I'm sorta inclined to agree with you on that.
But: When I was just playing BF3 like 20 mins ago I put my hand on the top of the case and it was quite warm.

On another note, could I install an extra fan on the heatsink ( I've got the right spelling for a chance ) to pull air out of it or is that gonna case more problems than not ?

( Prolimatech Lynx CPU Cooler ) is the one I have or should I just save for a better model ?

As always thank you for your reply's and help!

Lastly: If I was to buy a new CPU cooler, what do you recommend as a good buy?

i would try re seating the cooler first before spending money. could be poorly mounted with too much thermal paste or even too little

Turns out the instructions and all the websites relating to the cool are wrong.
They've got the fan on the wrong away around. I've never know such bad instructions in all my life.
Its dropped down 20c just turning the fan around. Its still hot but its a very ****** heat sink tbh. 70c under load now... still very hot!
I'm pushing at OC's CS because they've been really REALLY bad with me as of late.
Blaming a CPU error on a 0x3B bsod which, after research, turns out to be bad ATI drivers.

I'm pushing them for other reasons as well, I got my Mobo the first time to find it wouldn't fire up, sent it back to find wrong config on the MoBo.
I've had nothing but problems and frankly I'm kinda sick of it.

But as always I Would like to thank you for your help!
