Sony Playstation 4 - Impact on the PC games industry?

Enough about graphics cards (although I admit I derailed it) :p. As for the Ps4, it is already the king of consoles this generation in my opinion, lots more power than the Nextbox and with Microsoft going more towards the way of the Wii with tons more Kinnect dedication, it's a no brainer that the PS4 will have much better titles this generation. Now Blizzard moving over to Sony in my opinion opens a door for a relationship between Sony and PC, so hopefully we'll be seeing a lot of quality ports bought to PC. Dog is completely right about them being closed systems, and that ontop of the fact the Ps4 is now a lot closer to PC architecture than even the 360 was, the new generation is going to benefit PC more than ever before.

That's my opinion on it, anyway.

I hope the next Xbox doesn't suck by comparison, I can't stand the PS controller, it makes my hands ache.

I really want this next generation of consoles to bring a bit more life to the gaming scene as a whole, far to much rubbish has been coming out recently with no depth, a bit like a lot of films I suppose.

Quite an interesting console - for us, the most important things are the jump in graphics and the fact that these console contracts are keeping AMD semi-afloat.

I wonder why they didn't reveal much...remember this from the PS3:

:p

Soooo many assumptions. Final spec of the Xbox Next hasn't been announced, Sony bumping the PS4 to 8GB was a last minute thing, nothing to say MS can't do something similar now that they've seen the PS4 offering.

Also as for the 'Kinect' stuff... I don't see how its any different to the Move stuff demonstrated at the PS4 launch, or the very kinect-esque motion camera shown, or the light bar tracking...

Both consoles will have a lot of motion control options.

Note, Blizzard never said they were EXCLUSIVE to PS4, expect to see Diablo on 360 and Xbox Next as well.

This I can agree with, with PS4 and Xbox being very heavily PC architecture based it should make ports between them and the PC much easier.

Ive always prefered the Xbox to the PS3, in fact i only ever cleared one game on my PS3 because the Xbox was just better as a console but i loved the PS2 and overall prefered Sony as a company and how they approach gaming in general (not so keen on the whole over the top japanese stuff but apart from that) i will probably buy both consoles again but im hoping that i steer more towards the PS4 as a whole because more than anything i fancy a change. But if im honest i think MS (with there massive funds) will blow the PS4 out of the water.

I get the impression with Sony not making profit in the last 4 years that this may be make or break for them, it may well be the last console if the Xbox boats turns out on top !

Wonder what the new consoles will have as the launch killer app, you know the game that makes them a must buy. Resi 4 on gamecube as an example,
whatever the games are I bet it will a few months before we see them on PC,
else why got the console.

Think watchdogs looks a great title. Certainly looks pretty! I feel that the biggest impact on the next gen might be with a lot of the current big pc games being amd optimised such as
Battlefield and crysis 3 and the 2 consoles using amd apu's Nvidia might have some tough times ahead with lots of frustration for Nvidia users.

I'm expecting most developers to use gpu physics. That could kill nvidia physx dead unless they do everything to keep it alive.

I read on here, in the console section that the Nextbox is about 25% less powerful and is going to focus on the Kinnect side of things. If there is any truth to that then you can bet the Ps4 will dominate this generation.

Indeed, but my point was, because Blizzard are going to consoles, that'll hopefully open another door for some quality porting, hopefully bring PC back into the developers good books etc.

People seem to think the opposite. :p
