Best tablet on the market?

Been asked by a mate's wife which she should buy for hubby but tbh i have no idea which are better than which so please help.

I think 10" is going to be the size of choice and it will be used for video and reading more than web as he's often out in the sticks with no internet.

No budget as such but dont want to waste her money for no reason.

I bow to your collective knowledge and experience. Oh and not apple.

Nexus 7. Kindle would be better for reading but useless for media and a 10" device would be ideal for media but too big to read on due to the weight.

If i was going for a 7inch I would go with the Nexus 7.

For 10inch not sure whether I would have the Nexus 10 (built by Samsung) or Samsung Note 10.1.

Youtube can be good for comparisons of different tablets.

I think the Note 10.1 would pale significantly compared to the Nexus 10 in all areas apart from Pen Input and expandable storage.

Android Jelly Bean is a must on any Android device - make sure you get one with JB if you go Android.

Project butter is the main overhaul that makes JB so appealing, it makes the entire OS feel much more smooth and responsive.

You've said no to Apple despite the iPad being an excellent all round choice, based on your description if reading is so important wouldn't a Kindle or Nook with e-ink make more sense? They're easier to read stuff on than an LCD/AMOLED screen.

The Nexus 10 would probably be your next best bet as the resolution should make it a bit nicer than the Surface to read on.

The Sony Xperia Z tablet looks good and is released soon.

Waterproof to boot, and JB.
