Yeah, that was utter nonsense!

Yup, can't say I'm a fan of the guy, like too many of the board he just wants to line his own pockets but tries to come across in statements as a football man when he's nothing but a money man.

It doesn't matter how much he talks about it, we're forever hearing that Arsenal have significant funds if needed, where are they exactly? Season after season we sell our most prized assets and replace them with much lesser players. He pointed out that we've just spent £40,000,000 over the last season on players but failed to point out the fact that we sold one of the best players on the globe in the process.

Fabregas was a little different as I always felt and it always looked like he would return home one day, but with RVP I feel like we could have retained him for longer if we'd used some of our supposed war chest to bring in some good players and convince him we had ambition. Instead we let players slip through our fingers because the club are too tight to actually splash out without selling first.

One guess who this was aimed at...

We have the funds, Wenger doesn't spend it, there was talk at least 2-3 years ago of RVP wanting to leave and offers behind the scenes but another one of Wenger's magically "stay a bit longer, we'll buy, you'll see" type speeches.

RVP was out, because he wanted out, because he didn't believe that Wenger would win anything, it had nothing to do with the board, or spending, he didn't think Wenger could win anything.

We couldn't have done anything to make RVP stay, we could have held him to the last year of his contract and lost out on £23mil, which would have been stupid.

Players leave, players have left Utd, Real, Barca, Bayern, Chelsea while those teams have won titles, players move on, who cares. The issue is the replacements and the quality. Losing 60mil of players and buying 60mil of players, even if they were identical.... when the wasn't any where near good enough originally, is a sideways step at best, in our case its a backwards step as we couldn't find people of equal quality to replace Cesc or RVP.

The issue is, 3 years ago with Cesc and RVP in the team, we needed to replace Song, Diaby, Denilson, Sagna, Djourou, Squillaci, Walcott and the likes with better players, instead we've replaced our best players with less good ones. The guys we've bought in the past couple of years, if that was the quality of player we were replacing Diaby, Sagna, Ramsey with, we'd have a top team, more competitive and RVP might have stayed, this didn't happen because as always, Wenger genuinely believes that Diaby and co are great players who will win a title for Arsenal, he's simply wrong.

Your so naive mate, you really are. Your getting so entangled in Wenger i'm surprised you can think, your really doing my head in actually. Kroenke is an American business entrepreneur who has no desire to see the club succeed, only his bank balance. Usmanov like Abramovich is a geniune football fan...

I remember reading a good article not so long ago...you might want to read it.

Here was another article i found very interesting...

Re: Arsenal finances it looks like they're in cracking shape for the next few seasons financially at least, over the last few years without player sales and the housing income the football business has basically been breaking even or making a small loss but the lean times are definitely coming to an end for the following reasons:

1) New sponsorship deal - 25 million a season increase
2) New Premiership TV deal - 15-20 million a season increase
3) New Kit deal (current expires in 2014) - rumoured 10-15 million a season increase.

So even with the inevitable wage increases each season you're looking at around 50-60 million a season extra revenue without them actually doing anything in terms of expanding their commercial operations - pretty enviable position really and fits right in with their self-sustaining model. As 'tight corners' go that's a pretty comfy looking one :p

Soo, do the spuds fans still wish good ol 'Arry was in charge? Seems to be that the players are enjoying playing under AVB a lot more

Spurs fans*

I have always said, Harry should have had a 2 year contract, he then got to big for his boots at Spurs, tried to run is into the ground ala Portsmouth. Levy didn't let him, Terrible tactics and burn out from constant first 11 in every game.

Glad AVB is here, love the passion, the intelligence and the fact we have some backbone.

Long may it continue.

Without knocking Spurs or what AVB's achieved, I seem to remember last season people claiming Spurs should have been challenging the Manchester clubs for the League and the fact that they weren't was being used as a stick to beat Redknapp with.

I'm not Redknapp fan (far from it) but as it stands, from an end result point of view, Spurs are no better off than they were last season (yes I know they're currently 3rd but they were around this time last year too). I believe I said it when Redknapp was sacked/AVB was appointed that it was hard to see how AVB could improve on where Redknapp left them but he potentially was a better choice at consolidating that position. I stand by that.

I think they had a better team last year, Modric and VDV are way ahead of Dempsey and Sigurdsen. I also don't think they will implode like they did last year year, they seem to have a bit of tactical nous about them, mind you will be interesting to see what happens if Bale's current form stops. I like AVB, but if anyone thinks that top 2 is acheivable without pots of cash is sorely mistaken. The only possible way someone could break into that is when Fergie retires, and even then when the next manager screws up the manager after that will get a ton of money.

Dont forget King as well.

I think top 2 can be done, Spurs have thrown away quite a few points this season, could easily have another 6 points. Redknapp created outcasts. AVB seems to have the squad all happy and playing. I wish we had another striker, but we dont so Bale is carrying us along a bit. Defoe back would be nice.

Arsenal to up their wage bill

Looks like Wenger will be able to up his wage bill when this supposed £70mill warchest becomes available to spend in the summer.

Yayyyy means we can waste more money on paying our useless players and give them even longer contracts:p

On a more positive note, finally Bergkamp gets a statue of him outside the Emirates to go along with Henry:)

Absolute legend Bergkamp was, one of the finest players we have ever had to don an Arsenal shirt...just a shame we havent got anymore Bergkamps in the squad.
