I know all Apple rumours should be taken with a punch of salt, however as of late the rumours have been close to spot on so when I read this article (link below) I was a bit shocked to say the least!

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/technology/apple/9902864/Budget-iPhone-5-to-launch-soon.html

Apparently Apple are set to release a budget iPhone 5 at a price point of £220 and they hoping to achieve this by getting rid of the aluminium body.

What do you guys think? Apple have always been about premium products... Hat will they call it?

I personally would have thought they'd just try and reduce the cost of previous models...

A metal case does not cost £330.

I call bluff. That's even cheaper then a Nexus 4 and they're being sold at near cost price (if what I read/heard was correct).

The Aluminium body only costs about $5 more to manufacture compared to the previous body. Also apple don't go under a 30% profit margin, so it's total BS.

IF they were to make a cheaper phone it would go down the iPad mini route, using previous generation components that can be mass produced and that are already pre tooled e.t.c to bring costs down.

I agree. I'd find a 'cheap and cheerful' iPhone quite strange. It could even work against Apple.

Then again, the iPad mini has been ridiculously successful, but that's not really a direct alternative to something - it's a totally different size 'bracket'.

Indeed

And we call it... The iphone 4

I'm glad people are of the same opinion as me...

I really can't see it happening. I think they will just use previous generations as their cheaper models. If they did release a cheaper product as described in the article and I couldn't notice a 'real world' difference in feel etc then I would go for the cheaper model and Apple would lose a massive chunk of money so I can't see them doing it. Plus the point KitKat made about profit margins and AshD with the nexus... I can't see them doing it.

BUT... Steve Jobs is obviously gone (R.I.P :( ) and maybe his influences on the company are starting to dissipate and they are going down a different route? Who knows...

The main thing that shocked me is that it was on the telegraph website as a 'proper' article and not some foreign forum suggesting it might have a bit a weighting behind it!

if this was the case i would sell my current iphone 5 buy this one and stick a case on it.. then spend the profit
