***Official Ivybridge Overclock Thread***

could try auto,if it uses a lot of voltage try setting cpu v to normal, you can undervolt the cpu if you want by using -0.005 or -0.010v in dvid

dvid only gets unlocked when you set cpu v to normal

why not leave turbo cores on auto and just set cpu multi to 41x? thats what i do

I've considered using the multi overclock but this CPU is plenty fast enough for my use, but having the turbo kick in when it needs it is even better.

I will try what you suggested though......anything under 75c IBT is good yes?

ah I'm not sure if the BSODs I'm getting are the CPU after all

before each BSOD I get the a weird pattern of Ai charger warnings (20 of them) in the event log followed by a BSOD

The driver \Driver\AiCharger failed to load for the device PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_1E26&SUBSYS_84CA1043&REV_04\3&11583659&0&E8.

I have the same terrible issue. In event viewer i can see 20+ errors with aicharger plus and then critical error when my computer just restarts it self or have instant shutdown. I was blaming PSU, RAM and CPU for istant shutdowns but seems that this is something to do with these buggy softwares.

Anyone can help me with any advice? Otherwise i will have to start fresh windows with no AI suite installed at all.

I think I've seen that one before too :)

it won't have effected the WHEA errors though

but I think I got rid of Ai charger warnings by disabling AI charger

go into AI suite and you can select what you want loaded up or not - I think I had to uninstall that module too- can't remember

Just watch that Motherboard jam the cpu clock speed as well.

Im using the same one and its complete pants with any bios ive used.I aint used 1504 but i have been told its golden so maybe i will but i need latest oprom for raid trim too

So yea keep an eye for funny reboots and the cpu clock speed or bios settings being changed on the fly.I have had a small exe error in windows and it took my 4700mhz OC down to 3800 IN WINDOWS without a reboot and i had to reset cmos to clear it.your bios might still read 4700mhz etc but its a lie and cpu-z will show you the real clock speed.

Unless it jams at the preferred overclock you want ie for me i need it to jam at 4700 then its complete pants.I really hate that motherboard atm.

And LLC should be high on Asus, ultra high and extreme actually reverse vdroops so it goes up instead of down so LLC high should be all thats needed alongside say PLL 1.65 and voltage 1.3.You should get 4400 out of that at least and the lower PLL will take temps down even though 70C aint bad at all.

So got mine down to 1.18V with those settings and offset -0.08, haven't tried to push it further down yet. I think my temps are pretty good, the majority of the tests I've seen from P95 blend run at 50-60c.

Couple of questions;
There's one particular test that seems to make the voltage drop down to 1.16 and makes the temps go up to 70c, this isnt bad temp wise as probably wont happen during everyday things, but is there a reason for this? Seems to be the '8k' test that does it everytime.

I also have 1 core, core#2, that seems to be running hotter than the others. 10-11c hotter than core#0 and 5c hotter than core#1 and #3. Is this normal?

I'm idling at 0.944 - 0.952V atm, should I try a higher minus offset, bit worried that I'll drop the idle V too low and its not very easy to test that, other than leaving the pc on all day lol? Will it be worth dropping the V more, I'm quite happy with my temps but if it could go even lower then I guess its worth it? At least I'll know a stable setting to come back to...

keep going till its unstable

its normal to have one/two cores running cooler than the others, could be using more cpu v=vdroop in test 8? idk

I Removed all AI suite. Cleaned all registry from that crap and reinstalled only components that i need. TurboV EVO and Fan Xpert 2.

Looking now for further errors :)

Yeah I guess that makes sense. And I just wanted to double check that it was normal for one core to run a bit hotter ;).

Guess I'll try going a bit further now :)

I don't have a clue why, but my processor WILL NOT let me go past 4.6GHz. I have it set to 47x multi in the bios, v1.320. Load up windows and it says 4.6GHz, 46xmulti. What's going on here?!

I'm not delidded yet, I don't know when I'll do it. Liquid ultra is the successor to liquid pro - http://www.coollaboratory.com/en/products/liquid-ultra/

you using an asus board? my sabertooth does this often!

I bet he has Asus, you have the sabertooth and i have the Z77-V-PRO and everyone get's this stuck bios issue.I get mine locked at 4GHZ nevermind above 46x.You cannot go above even if bios reported 4700 so clear cmos and in the mean time hope it jams at 4700.

Latest 1805 bios now lets me change volts etc even if clock speed is stuck hehehe.Terrible though asus need to sort this crap out soon.I have real bother overclocking anything with it.

Stock 3.8 turbo oc get to 61c, so all good.

Tried an overclock of 41 Turbo last night, everything set to auto. But annoyingly trying to boot into windows fails.....not even the motherboard splash screen.... I hear my gpu fan spin up and the case led's turn on....then off.

vcore set @ 1.2 - same result.

My bios version is F10 but seeing as apart from getting a 4ghz + OC, everything works as it should, so im hesitant to update

Also I have noticed that my ram setting appear to be 13 multi, giving me 1333 mhz ram..... Installed Ram is Corsair XMS3 2*4gb 1600mhz...
Admittedly I have changed this but the same time as the turbo and results in a failed boot....

what am I missing. why is it failing to post?
(lol my Phenom 960T oc was a breeze....)

Mathius, enable the xmp profile for the ram, this will set the rated speed, timings and voltge. Also try a bump in cpu vcore, and try with pll at 1.65.

Yeah, I updated bios to 1805 and it's sticking -.-

Went back to the bios I was using before the sticking multiplier happened and all is good, version 1504.

Got it running at 4.7GHz - v1.33~35 - CAN'T WAIT TO DELID!

you cant flash back to previous bios on asus? only other way is to buy spare bios chip with older bios flashed on it

Ooops nvm^^

illuz be carefull in delidding

cut just one corner and use plastic to cut the remaining sides,i used a cut down plastic take away lid, came off in 10 seconds and no nicks

It went back fine for me, I'd be very annoyed if it wouldn't let me!

All seems to be at 4.7 v1.336 here, temps sit around 70 and hit 80 max in Prime95. I'll do some general use testing later with some Crysis 3 & BF3.

Yeah that's what I was gonna do mate, just need to order some liquid ultra!

Good to hear your sorted, looks like a decent chip youve got. And delidding will hopefully help with temps. This should let your gpu's stretch their legs a bit better now.

I'm well impressed with it mate, my GPU usage is a lot better, you can really feel the difference. :)

Got it settled with offset +0.60, v1.336-344. Crysis 3 stable, max temps hitting 72 and usually sitting at 60-65.

I think I could hit 4.8 but the volts will be too silly.

Do it!!!

4.8ghz here with 1.38v and temps of 78c maximum(intel burn test max stress),silver arrow heatsink with only one 140mm fan
