whats wrong with that Q6600? Mine still runs very well, for internet browsing and gaming on mid settings its completely fine, you can always sell it for about 40-50 quid.

Thats PSU is also quite good.

To be honest if its just the GPU failure, I dont see why cant you buy DDR3 775 motherboard for 30 quid, 8gb ram for 30 and get b grade or 2nd hand 560 or 570/580 for 100 odd quid or ATI like 6950 or 7850... it still will be a capable gaming system.

Has been due an upgrade for years though so maybe time to cut my losses and do one of these and a £100 odd video card, assuming they will out perform my current one.
So many options though, hard to know where to start after years of not keeping up!

All you need imo is a decent graphics card (550ti, I'd stick with NVIDIA if you don't want to faff around with drivers too much). TBH, you may find an equivalent old banger graphics card on the second hand market and stick it in. These things will go cheap as chips.

and some memory (4GB or more). 2GB is so ghetto!

If you go cheap on the CPU, it's not gonna help you much from a Q6600.

well if you want decent system, be prepared to dish out around 400-500 quid..... Look for i5 2500k, 3570K... Z77 motherboard and Ati 7950.
