*** The Official BlackBerry Z10 & Q10 Thread ***

Would take some time to get used to, even if your a BB user imo.

I quite like the gestures now I've got used to them. When I picked up my Android after a few days of using the Z10 the first thing I tried to do was swipe up from the bottom to close/switch apps.

I'm not saying one's better than the other but the BB does have the advantage of being able to completely customise the on-screen buttons to suit the app rather than having to show the same 3 buttons.

I am the same, I'm now always swiping up on my nexus 7. Much prefer swipe up to go to home screen

Have any of you got the Z10 who have also had a Samsung Galaxy IIS?

I'd be interested to read a comparison.

I've used an s2 in the past and although I prefer Z10 you're comparing hardware from different generations. A gs3 is probably a fairer comparison but you really need to try both operating systems for yourself.

There a pros and cons to both, I find the Z10 a more fluid experience than any version of Android to date but there is no doubt about it there is a greater variety of apps for Android. That doesn't matter to me but it may to you.

I just got mine today, really like it but sometimes it lag ever so slightly for a mili second, though from when i watch reviews there isn't this issue.

i love the feel in the hand and the back rubbery surface is really nice, a far cry from the crappy plastic on the s3.

the phone looks really nice and putting a case on it just spoils the feel and look! :x

signal is so much better on it and the hotspot is flawless which is what i use the most.

blackberry link is awesome too, no more cables :D

Finally after a few weeks of waiting for the price of the black Z10 to come down, i managed to bag one tonight from the Westfield shepherds bush store.

Cost me £480 and bought a nice microfiber pouch to go along with it.

Havent had a chance to set it up with my sim card but will probably get around to doing it tommorrow at some point.

Have to say im pleased that i finally managed to bag one, been having a hard time trying to get hold of one at the price it was originally released at sim free.

In case anyone is interested, Blackberry are doing a nationwide tour of the Z10. At the moment they are in Westfield Stratford...just popped in there on my way to work and was having a chat with a few of the reps there. Won a blackberry stress ball as well:p and they entered me into a draw for a Z10 that they are giving away.

On my second day with my Z10 and absolutely love it, going to put my S3 up for sale now as i dont see the point of carrying 2 devices around. The apps are getting better and better, just waiting on a few big name apps to come over which should hopefully happen next month.

After using it for some time I still really enjoy it. Using iOS or Android devices now feels quite strange. The OS really flows quite nicely.

Got my 4G sim but it turns out my device was one for the middle east market and isn't 4G enabled; frustrating but a UK model should be on the way.

Blackberry were in work over the last week showing off the device, the agents seemed quite impressed by it. I have fed back some of the quirks I mentioned previously, in particular the way the hub navigation works (entering the hub in the last place you left) and it apparently they are well aware of this. Without confirming I expect that will change in 10.2.

There are some simple touches which make it a joy to use, for example when the phone is locked I can swipe down from the top of the screen to put it into a 'sleep mode', essentially letting me access my alarms but turning off all notifications - great for bedtime!

Do I prefer it to iOS and Android? I would have to say yes. It feels more 'focussed' than Android and iOS is in desperate need of a revamp. Some key apps are missing but in general the app world has been fine.

Would love to see a new device using some more premium feeling materials in the future.

There are many ways to use the hub. Check at Crackberry for ways to get a list of currently running apps and other little tips that aren't immediately obvious.

Indeed Crackberry is the place to be to learn new tips and tricks on the Z10 and BB10 as a whole. I spend a lot of time there, getting to know new tricks on my Z10.

3 days so far with my Z10 and i havent looked back, absolutely love it although a lot of legacy BB features from the older devices are missing but hopefully they will be added back to the OS in future updates.

Yesterday the Canadian Z10 owners got an update which has fixed a few issues. Sadly it seems like carriers/networks still control the updates, as of yet i havent received any update and neither have any other UK Z10 owners but from what i have heard and read it will be coming soon but its all dependant on the networks and how fast they test them and get them rolled out. Im hoping in the future that we can load unofficial OS's like we used to on the older BB devices because knowing Tmo, it will take them forever to roll out updates:p.

Been to westfield Stratford and been to the Z10 booth they have set up there, so far ive won a blackberry stress ball:p and today was talking to one of the guys there and won myself a £10 BB voucher to spend on apps:D. Spent some time talking to the BB tech guy from their head office here and was told that a lot of new updates and features are going to be seen soon in future updates.

On a more positive note, for all the people saying that BB is dead earlier on in this thread...it seems like your wish to see BB die off isnt going to be coming true anytime soon. Keep in mind that so far the Z10 has only been released in the UK, Canada and India and a few other countries and it hasnt even been released in America. But its meant to be released later this month from what the rumours are saying. The Americans that are desperate to get their hands on one, have crossed the border into Canada to pick one up:p.

So far from what i have gathered from both articles is that Blackberry is doing very well sales wise. Even the UK BB rep that i spoke to today at Westfield Stratford is saying that the Z10 is proving to be a very popular device.

Anyhow a few articles on BB and BB10:

50% of Android and iphone users are switching over to BB10: http://crackberry.com/further-confirmation-50-z10-sales-are-coming-android-and-ios-owners

Blackberry is back, a quote i liked from the article:

What's happening with BlackBerry is a lot like the girl who dates her high school sweetheart. He's a bit chubby and a bad dresser, but he's great at conversation. Eventually a new kid comes along. He dresses better, looks better and steals her heart for the moment. But after a while, something just isn't quite right. The girl isn't able to communicate with the new guy like she used to communicate with her old chubby boyfriend.

Summer holidays come and go, and the girl goes back to school in September. To her surprise, the once-chubby kid has been working out, and he's dressing a lot better. Yet he's the same sweet guy that communicates with her so well. Her heart is captured again, and she's back to her first love.

Pretty much bang on with that i have to say.

So what apps are people finding/using?
gNewsReader is coming along as a pretty good google reader client.

StuntPear
Eufloria HD
Tennis in the Face
FlyCraft

LOL if you actually believe that I'm lost for words... :D

Oh and the article and the quoted statement say completely different things... your saying 50% of all android and iphone owners are switching to BB10. The article is saying that 50% of BB10 purchases are from iphone/android users.

I dont believe anything;)

Yes my bad:o, didnt really read the article fully but your correct in that 50% of sales are from iphone/Android users.

So far ive got beweather, sayit, angry birds star wars and crackberry 10 app. I got a £10 voucher today from the BB Z10 stand at Westfield Stratford so bought beweather and sayit with the voucher. Still got £5 left so will save it for when the better apps come round.

Ive sideloaded a few apps though, sky+. sky sports, kindle, speedtest, imdb and a few others.

Havent really had a chance to download any games other that angry birds star wars myself, need to get round to downloading plants vs zombies at some point...one of my fave all time games.

Are there any apps that people want for BB10? I want to use my new skills in C++ to code something up, so might as well make it useful. I guess I can have a go at anything that can be controlled using an API etc...

Is the boot time on BB10 still the ridiculous 5 minute wait that's been present on all BB OS's past?

Nope, my z10 takes about a min or so to boot up.

EDIT: Just tested mine and it takes exactly 1.11mins. Super fast now unlike the older BB's

I don't know the boot time. But why does that matter? You're not booting it every day.

Indeed, other than just now, mine has been re-booted/started for a good 3 days and its been running perfectly fine. The BB10 OS is much more smarter than previous BB's in the way it handles its RAM useage and leakage.

Probably best asking over at crackberry, theres a thread there somewhere that people are asking for certain apps to be made. But at the moment, there are certain api's that havent been opened to devs...hopefully they will open those api's up to devs in the near future.
