Our Governments Education department is now using Mafia style tactics to rush in and force schools to convert to accadamies, so they can be headed up by David Camerons friend Lord Harris, owner of Carpetright!

This article outlines in detail what is happening:

http://www.guardian.co.uk/commentisfree/2013/mar/04/education-capitalist-command-economy

I urge you to read the article, but basically to summarise:

Schools deemed as previously Outstanding by ofstead who then have a "Blip" in their record are quickly gobbled up by the Academy vultures and forced by threat over to Harris Group. They know fine well there is nothing actually wrong with these schools, so once things get back to normal they can say "See how Academies are improving our schools" and opening the door to skimming off our taxes into private pockets.

A school with a previous 5 years of "Outstanding" Ofsted reports has been given this treatment:

In September last year the Department for Education held a closed meeting with the school's governors, in which they were told (according to the chair of the governors) that if they did not immediately accept its demand, "we will get the local authority to fire you, all of you ... if the local authority don't do it, we will. And we will put in our own interim board of governors, who will do what we say". The governors were instructed not to tell the parents about the meeting and their decision.

Very worrying indeed...

Update: here is a film about a school currently fighting Harris group:

We had a problem with bullying and my son. They started to keep him in at play times to keep him away from the bully, it ended up with about 5 kids all having to stay in at play time to keep them away from the bully. They even took the bully out on special trips to theme parks and the like. Ended up taking our son out of the school.

But then again i didnt read the op very well.

This is what the thread really should be about

George Monbiot makes a living out of writing inflamatory left-wing guff for people to get all het up about in CIF. He's like a pinko Jan Muir.

The real shame is that people resist semi-privatization as if it will lead to a worse education system than they currently have. What is wrong with academies ? the current school system is pretty bad so i like the idea of converting them to academies. It brings with it more responsibility and control to the local level and allows for schools to have more independence. How can that be a bad thing?

I guess it is bad thing for teachers and their unions because this might reduce their ability to hide behind their unions and get a way with doing a bad job.

In my day bully's got the cane.... now they get special trips to theme parks and various other rewards whilst their victims get to sit inside at playtime wondering why they are being punished.
Same crap happens at my kids school some couple with about 8 kids got a free caravan holiday for their whole family paid for by the school....

Head teacher moans my son will miss 18 days of school going on a holiday back to disney world florida......

maybe if he was unruly and went around beating other kids up the school might have paid for his trip and not moaned about him having time off

It really is awful what is going on in UK education now, Gove is an utterly vile little man. Having said that, we know the Tories are the nasty party so we should expect them to do things like this - why aren't the opposition holding the government to account on education?

This happened to me. For the first couple of schools I went to (parents moved around a lot, ended up 15 in the end :p) where this happened, I tried the teacher route, who were ******** for the most part.

Then I kicked the **** out of them after that. Strange how teachers moaned that you shouldn't do that, and how I should go through normal channels etc. Not a backbone amongst them.

Thankfully I shot up like a beanpole to nearly 6'3 so it sorta stopped after that. :p

I don't believe that violence is the way forward, and I feel that bullying is a terrible experience that filters through to different aspects of life, and sets or breaks some people for life.

Bullying in schools should be dealt with extremely harshly.

edit: I understand the issue of what do you do with bullies, you don't want them to end up dropping out of education, but there needs to be a punitive aspect, which involves families etc.

probably scared in case their own deals with other companies owned by their friends get outed.

there should be a law stopping them ***** awarding contracts sometimes worth hundreds of millions to their friends

But atleast they are honest with the "we are all in it together" crap

Gove is a scumbag, he really is making teaching a unpleasant job for a lot of teachers right now.

I do actually genuinely believe that the conservatives are evil....

I think the conservatives are the party which are called in under the government democracy facade when the banks need cuts to be made and money needs to be saved!

Certainly my least favourite party.

Because they agree. In fact, it was their idea in the first place and they are largely to blame for any mess education is currently in.

So... 'the banks' decide the government now do they? Which banks would that be - specifically?

You'd have been more convincing blaming the lizard-men controlling the media. Because they *do* decide ellections.

In fairness its a bit of a hypocrisy that the Tories want a small government but at the same time want to bring schools into some sort of weird academy central government mess...
